292 V8 Front mount
 

I have 1962 f100 short stepside and am restoring it. It was originally fitted with six cylinder and I now want to fit 292 v8. It appears to me that there should be a bracket welded an front x member of frame to accept front engine mount. Can some one let me know if this correct and is it possible to get dimensions or even a photo or can I buy part. I am from australia and would like contact in USA where I can buy used parts. Thankyou

yes there is a mount that welds to the crossmember at the front of the engine. when i did mine i cut the mount of the pick up i took the motor out of.

There is an L shaped bracket (somewhat similar to the one for the I-6's) that bolts to the timing cover, then to the crossmember.

Welded to the crossmember is the "Engine Support Bracket" used in conjunction with the upper and lower rubber insulators.

These same two insulators (Upper: C3TZ6068D / Lower: C1TT6A061C) are used with 1961/64 F100/250 223/262 I-6's and 292's, and have been reproduced by Dennis Carpenter (denniscarpenter.com).

It sounds like you have the 292 front mount already, right?

The cross member isn't anything special, just a straight beam of U-channel with a hole in the middle for the front mount bolt. the rubber insulators were just big rubber washers, I think I have used radius arm bushings from later model fords in their place. I am only suggesting this because the shipping to Australia will be outrageous, and unless you are going for show quality pristine, I don't think it would be worth it. If I remember I will snap a pic of the front for you this weekend.

There is absolutly no way that radius arm bushings could be used in place of the rubber insulators (engine mounts) used on 223/262 I-6's and 292's.

The center hole of the radius rod bushings is over twice the I.D. of the rubber insulators. The radius arm bushings are a totally different shape.

The radius arm bushings rubber material is also different.

The 223/262/292 rubber insulators are solid rubber with a hole thru the center used for the steel sleeve the bolt passes thru.

The upper insulator (C3TZ-6068-D) is tapered, the lower insulator (C1TT-6A061-C) has a shoulder on it.

I suggest you look at the Ford parts catalog illustration of the whole tamale to see what all this jazz looks like.

Why you didn't use the correct parts is beyond me. These parts were still available from Ford until a year ago.

Today, there are dozens still remaining at Ford dealers and at obsolete parts vendors.

These same front engine mount insulators (C1TT-6A061-C & C3TZ-6068-D) are also used for the rear engine (trans) mounts.

Two on the right and two on the left sides (one upper, one lower per side).

Pictures of the one I had made are in my album. I might be able to find the dimensions. It's really not a very complicated piece to make.

G'day mate. I've got a 62 and a 65 that I'm working on. I live in Caboolture Qld., so I might be able to help you out with that mount or even some other bits.

Also, a good tip is to buy a set of workshop manuals on CD. You'll find em on ebay (USA). Mine cost me $49.99 (AU) delivered and it took 2 weeks.
