1993 f250 door won't open

Well, i guess i have been lucky, i haven't had to go on here for a year. I always go here before i even start to take truck apart. 1993 f250 7.3l 4wd,
today my driver side door would not open from the inside. it will from the outside, but it is not pulling something from the inside. I know you guys will know the answer. thanks again, don't know what i'd do without this sight.

I think your year of truck uses a cable attached from the handle to the release latch. Heard that they can break after a while of use.

I think the change over was in 1987, older trucks use a solid rod instead. I'm not sure, but I think you might be able to take the solid rod out of an 1980-1986 truck door and put it in your truck. Otherwise, just go to a wrecker and find a similar year of truck and take the cable out of it.

The cable may have just streched if it stretched just un hook it from the handle and twist it around a few times and put it back on this will shorten the cable up and alow you to poen the door i had to do that to mine and it has been fine ever since.

My F100's door handle ripped out of the door where it mounts (slides) in the front, so it may be that as well. I fixed it by riviting in a small 1/2'' by 4'' piece of thin metal to help brace the front clip on the handle.

My 93's driver's door did the same thing. the cable had broken-off. My local salvage yard had a supply of new cables in stock, for $20. Ford won't sell you just the cable, they want mega-bucks for a whole new assembly. For the hassle involved, I wouldn't get a junk yard cable. You don't know how long it will last. Please save yourself a lot of grief and buy a new cable. If you need a link to one, I could probably dig it up.

how hard is it to do. i have had the door cover off before and done the motor for the power windows. if you have a link or p/n that would be great.
I think it might be stretched seems like it still has tension, and I did not hear a pop.

It took me 20 minutes to swap. Hardest part, was getting the end of the new cable in the latch assembly. I'll find a link for you..

LMC Truck catalog has them for $14.95. They have a GREAT online catalog too, with a good drawing of what all is in there. Link is here:
