ridiculous wheel hop
 

my 00 f250 super cab long bed 2wd is a great truck. but where i live there are alot of dirt roads, but i still dont need 4wd. anyway whenever i get to some sugar sand, no matter how much or how little i step on the throttle, it hops like crazy. it is the most aggravating thing about the truck. any idea on how to stop this?

I had the same problem when at the beach in the 2wd F-250 I had. Trying to drive in the sand was so aggravating. The only way I found to stop this was to buy me the truck I have now. That is extreme, but it stoped the hopping.

I don't know how to stop the hopping.

I'm not familiar with the 2wd setup. Are there blocks on the rear axle? Lift blocks are the main reason for wheel hop or otherwise known as "axle wrap" on a 4wd. I cured mine by a new lift that is all spring, no blocks :D

naa, no blocks in it. all stock, it is just annoying because my 76 f250 long bed does just fine. everytime it gets to hopping i am just waiting for the u-joint to go bye bye.

whats the difference in the rear of a 2wd from a 4wd? says its for 4x4's only.

I've never even looked under a 2wd Superduty, but I do know the frontend is completely different. Does your rear-end have limited slip? That might cause the hopping in loose sand if you don't have it......I'm just throwing ideas out now

I was going to meet my brother at the beach here, he was surf fishing. The sand was a little soft, but the other trucks made it fine, 1/2 ton trucks. I started down the beach, didn't get far. The truck was bouncing so bad I couldn't go anywhere. I had to back out and they came and picked me up. I think the front of these trucks are so heavy that the front sinks and with no weight in the back, it just sits there and hops on the sand. My dually is much better in the sand. If I had 4x4 on the F-250, I don't think I would have had that problem.

Are you sure about that? I thought the 250's had 2 inch blocks and the 350's had 4 inch wether it was 2 or 4 wheel drive.

Air down your tires to 13-15psi, you will be amazed what a difference it will make. I can pull my 14000lb trailer out on the sand and over a hill no problem once aired down.

i looked, there is what looks like a 3/4 inch block. its not factory, but is that enough to make a difference? the truck is not limited slip, although 90% of the time when im going straight both spin, not it turns i dont think. maybe a leveling kit will help the weight balance a little.
