NAVY LAKE G2G Thread. ANSWER UP! (official)

Who will, who won't?

We need planning info

WHAT DAY

lariat97 06-07-2008 09:38 AM

I'll be there. Any weekend is good for me. This meet is yours to plan Dutch. Just take it from here. I'm too busy repairing my kitchen & working to do it.

Greywolf 06-07-2008 08:57 PM

I'm looking for one more "Okay, let's do it" before I commit. I also need to check with my boss to find out what I'm going to use to fill the tank on the ranger after the last two weeks. (Grrrr...)

I like next saturday. Call it a show-time of around 11AM to noon, and the best way in is via Bethuel road because of the low speed limits on the reservation.

JOIN UP POINT for this one is going to be a no-brainer. We can all park in front of the main facility and see what is open - I bet it all is!

If there is leftover venison around your place bring it - but charcoal and everything is cheaper for me to go get on base once we rendezvous...

We can figure a shopping trip once we arrive, and the grill(s) can be started while I run for stuff. Sound workable?

Greywolf 06-13-2008 03:05 PM

Between 11 and noon. Let's do it!

Greywolf 06-14-2008 12:14 AM

CANCELLED

Sorry about that - maybe another time. I'll still go to the exchange and commissary tomorrow though.

*fussezzz about stuff, walks in a circle twice, and lays down*

"WOOF!"

"Party pooperezzz..."

REAM 06-20-2008 05:47 PM

Where is this Navy Lake???

Greywolf 06-20-2008 06:05 PM

Just north of NSA Midsouth, in Millington (the old navy school base). It's a personnel command now.

Look up Millington TN on your favorite map search, and then look just north of it on the other side of the airstrip.

lariat97 06-21-2008 01:09 PM

I don't understand this chapter. It doesn't matter what someone does to have a G2G no one other than few regulars ever show up. Heck a 4 truck meet is about our top number so far. Wolfie has found a good spot for a meet & only one member has posted up.The weather is great. Lets set a date & throw a good cookout. We have over 75 members in the west Tn area & many in the middle Tn area.
I've driven over 300 miles one way to several meets with another truck site. I will invite them to this meet. We need to turn off our computers & head to Navy lake. I want to meet the members & see some of the great trucks we have in this chapter. Who's with me? Lets have a party!

Greywolf 06-23-2008 07:37 AM

*There's also Glenn Springs Lake if we want to have a serious "MASS Fishing Bonanza" one of these days...

Fishing permits for the place are five bucks, I dunno if there's a boat launch fee

Layed Out 100 07-02-2008 05:14 PM

I have been working crazy hours on nights for the past four weeks but tonight is the last night. I have a four day weekend and should go back to sat/sun off for the next few weeks. Im interested!

Greywolf 07-02-2008 10:11 PM

I'd almost bet the shore fishing around Navy Lake is pretty good for a Rod&Reel HUNTER that knows where fish hang out... There's actually a second lake - more like a pond - next to the main lake. I doubt anybody even thinks about it, so it's liable to be prime Bass territory...

I have absolutely nothing going on this weekend, other than puzzling out where the local economy is going.

Layed Out 100 07-03-2008 12:23 AM

That second lake/pond you say dont get much pressure, could a feller get a two man bass boat in it...the plastic one with a trolling moter. How long does it take to get there from Memphis?

Greywolf 07-03-2008 01:20 AM

I think the little lake is too small, but a good place to hunt bass. I wonder if there are snags in it that would tear up a cast net....

Layed Out 100 07-03-2008 01:36 AM

Is it legal to cast net it? It just surprised me to hear of a public place not pressured so much! when I first moved up here my Brother and I fished Lake View alot with his two man boat. and could get 30# a evening. We would fish it after work. The two man boat could come to work in the back of the truck. A few times we were putting the boat in the water they were having a local bass tournament and we could hear the big boys laughing at us, saying crap like are they riding a sheet of plywood out there?.....We made shure to be back at their weigh in!!! I think their winner would have two med size bass. Our piece of plywood(plastic two man)boat would be coming back across the lake sideways from our stringer. looked like a gater was chasing us.lol after about the third time of us showing them up they all wanted to know how we were doing it. A big boat could not go where we were fishing. hell I had a 18 ranger and my brother has a 20' champion.....those are nice but we were showing lures to fish that dont see lures! Big boats are comfy but we catch fish!

Greywolf 07-03-2008 01:43 AM

You'd have to see it. The little lake I can cast into the trees across....

The main lake is about four acres or more. Hard to judge, it winds around. It could even be double that for all I know.

Far as cast net legal - it's on a federal reservation, but half the time nobody is there to monitor what goes on. It sure isn't TWRA managed!

Layed Out 100 07-03-2008 01:51 AM

We could clean that small one out in a couple of hours...I hope you have some space in you're freezer.

Layed Out 100 07-03-2008 01:55 AM

Hey as soon as you and lariat97 have an open day let me know.We could have a blast cleaning out a hole like that!

Greywolf 07-03-2008 01:59 AM

I ain't sure what's in there, but the RV people that camp next to it don't amount to much. I doubt it's ever been seriously worked over.

Crashing out soon - it's getting late.

lariat97 07-03-2008 09:28 AM

We can go soon. Its getting hot to fish unless you go early or late. Plan a day & I'll try to go. I'll bring my boat. It holds 3 people real good with plenty of room to fish.

Blue Bomber 07-03-2008 10:11 AM

ill come, but i dont fish. how many friends can we bring?i have same friends that fish.
is it still gonna be at Navy Lake?? booze? keep booze hidden in your pocket??
other than that im in. when?

Greywolf 07-03-2008 01:26 PM

Maybe the weekend after this one, the 11th?

I'd watch the booze though. A cold brew might be good at some point, but if it's real hot it will wear someone out. Not to mention DUI's are one of the worst things that could happen to anyone...

I'd say plan it for sometime in the afternoon, since it's easier to get organised that way. Don't forget skeeter spray if we stay late!

Blue Bomber 07-03-2008 03:05 PM

hell yeah, still at Navy Lake??

Layed Out 100 07-03-2008 04:25 PM

count me in

Greywolf 07-03-2008 07:46 PM

SHO NUFF! It's seriously easy to find, if you come up 51 to Millington, turn right at NAVY Road (shows what happens around an old base), drive by the base itself to the very first road going north again (BETHUEL Road) and go north on it to just past the old navy housing that's being torn down. Make a left and you'll see the horse stables ahead - drive slow through there, wouldn't want to spook somebodies critter!

The reason for going around like that is Bethuel road is a 45 zone. Going through the base itself is all 15 and 20 mile an hour zones in that area.

I'm looking for a way to paste a map in here...

Greywolf 07-05-2008 10:39 PM

It's looking good for this one, Layed Out 100 is planning to be there, and so will I.
(At the very least, to show off my new T-Shirt!)

I think we can get live bait out of the edges of the place (likely a sure thing. See the Tennessee Fishing thread. CAST NETS are amazing), and lures are always a possible. A Tennessee fishing license may be required.

On most maps, the lake is called "TANY LAKE", but everyone I ever talked to calls it NAVY lake because it's technically on the base.

If you've never used a cast net before, get ready for some fun! I can show you what you need to know.

One of the advantages of a cast net is that you can find out if there are bait fish close in to shore that big fish might go after. The presence or absence of them tells you how healthy the lake is. Another point is that fish are either breeding, or they are not. A LOT of GAME FISH "GUPPIES" or babies tells you they are in there and of breeding size. These will stay in the shallows until they can defend themselves.

BIG fish normally won't go into shallow water.

"Stream Fishing" though was always my favorite. I can read ripples.

Blue Bomber 07-07-2008 09:31 AM

ill be there but i may be in a chebby. my truck isnt shifting right and may need a column rebuild. YAY!!

Greywolf 07-11-2008 12:40 AM

How's it lookin' for tomorrow?

I'm still getting used to a strange rod and reel...

You'll be in the right place if you see THIS bizarre little ride:

67nukeford 07-11-2008 07:33 AM

Hey Wolf, they no longer have the A-schools there at Millington?? I went to AMS A-school there in '85.

Blue Bomber 07-11-2008 11:34 AM

Its looking really bad for me. My G/F has to work, and im way too broke to take the truck. sorry guys.

Greywolf 07-11-2008 01:56 PM

They keep talking about bringing the A-schools back so they don't have to rebuild them after hurricanes, but these days it's a giant PSD activety.

By the way Blue Bomber:

You might give 'em a jingle. Sandy Walker is the man with the answers!

Blue Bomber 07-11-2008 02:04 PM

cool, thanks. Ill try to get the time. This whole "growing up" crap sucks. I have a 2yr old that needs to be watched 24 hours a day. My truck that needs about 3 days and $200 spent on it. My G/F needs to give me money to fix all the problems with her van. My freind is gonna pay me to put a starter on his car today ( I cant turn down money right now) dishes need to get done before they get to bad. I have some more laundry to do. Im trying to quit smoking and.....well thats bout it. sorry for the rant.

Greywolf 07-11-2008 02:18 PM

"Dishes" is a four letter word. I use paper plates as much as I can...

purecountry 07-12-2008 07:35 AM

The a-schools right now are in Pensacola Flordia. My Gunny went through in TN. though. Id love to get a gtg on for when Im home, see what everybodys up too. Itll be in Jan. though, thats the next time Ill be on leave. Could we meet at a restaruant or something? Just a good meal, coffee and cigarettes, then admire all the trucks in the parking lot for a few hours?

lariat97 07-12-2008 10:24 AM

You can plan a eat & great for FTE members anytime you want. I'm in another club that has good activity in the east Tn area. For some reason west Tn isn't as active in either club. You should plan your event with plenty of time for other members to plan for it. Good luck with your event. It is too far away for me to attend.

Greywolf 07-12-2008 11:37 AM

2:30 or 3:00 this afternoon?

I know Howard has pretty much cancelled out, Bomber can't make it...

Layed Out 100 - fire me off a call if you can. This is rapidly scaling down to zero...

Blue Bomber 07-14-2008 09:20 AM

Im really sorry. I wanted to make it, and the crap just ran down hill. Ill go to the next one. Ill bring some burgers too!

Greywolf 07-14-2008 03:38 PM

Alan comes from Hernando MS, he said he might could swing by and pick you up on the way if it comes to it. -And that Harley truck of his is NICE, man.

Who knows - maybe "TRUCK POOLING" is the answer...
