You rely on your driveshaft as a transmission mount?

thank you bob. and drillin a hole out 1/8th of an inch in a piece of steal is SOO half-assin the install of new hardware... God forbid that 1/8th inch should cause the failure of a 25lb piece of stamped steel!!

I didn't say it would cause it to fail. I like using the right parts and I like installing them with the right tools. I don't like cutting corners. You two go circle jerk over your own rigged trucks; mine will be taken care of properly.

ok. so youre just sayin that modifyin existin equipment (that is more than up to the task) to accept beefier and stronger hardware is a bad thing... gotchya.

what would you guys suggest for a bed treatment ? the box is just sitting there right now, not actually mounted yet....

i figure in three years im going to pull her off the road and do a pretty decent restoration (paint/bushings/seals/etc...) for her 20th b-day :)

i dont want to use anything thats going to be impossible to remove, but also dont want to cause/accelerate any issues with rust between now and then either...maybe i'll just paint the bed floor for now....

im actually considering using industrial velcro along the tops of the channels and bottom of box so i dont have to drill any holes.....any thoughts ?

i would say get her rhino lined in red. that would look sharp! :-X22

Um, I was joking. Personally, I'd probably elongate the holes and have at it. But, I figure it's every person's right to fix their stuff the way they want to.

The part wasn't "beefier" or stronger. The studs were simply spaced 1/8" wider than the stock piece. Why are you so dead set on me using a part that shouldn't be there when I can just go buy the right part?

460/5 03-05-2010 09:43 PM

ok. i just totally made myself an @$$ thanks to my misinterpretation... the way i read it, the studs were 1/8th inch too big for the holes. my bad. i humbly apologize.

zxwut? 03-05-2010 09:45 PM

No worries.

Sure. Works like a charm. The "Other" mount is just there to look pretty.

Why not just get the right part instead of half assing such a vital piece?

Half-assery is incredibly fun sometimes! I did an engine swap ON my truck last year, and improvised a choke from some steel wire, run up through a hole I drilled under the console:

And let's not forget my custom exhaust!

Yeah, it was a lawn mower, but I did the swap ON my truck. Get it? ;)

And then there's my extended fuel filler for my flatbed:

Oh, and my favorite, custom fiber* headlight alignment bushings:

*So what if the fiber is wood pulp in the form of paper?

And my improvised 1,000+ pound loading system:

Okay, I must confess, I was just looking for an excuse to post some of my photo backlog. Forgive me?

To be remotely on topic, I got my truck sort-of-stuck today, twice. But I got out with a grain shovel, just had to dig the snow out from around my diffs and transfer case a couple times.

Looking good, and I see you even have space on both sides of it that you can fit some smoke stacks :D which in turn is allthe reasons you should need to convert to a diesel engine :p

I have a box like this one, the same design but wider, and I have it bolted down with six 1/4" bolts and nuts. It's a pretty clean install I think, and even if I some day remove the box the holes are so tiny I won't be losing anything through them. In your case I'd go with four bolts, but make sure you use good SAE washers on both sides (inside the toolbox and under the bed). Knowing how loaded my toolbox can get, I wouldn't trust velcro to hold yours in place.
