Best way to build serius power, im talking 800-1000 HP
I plan on getting into street mod truck pulling and am torn wether to go with a 460/429 type motor or go with the 427 FE motor. I was looking for the best combo to go with if price wasnt a big determining factor (hey, if Im gonna do it im gonna do it right, not halve-azzed) Who makes the best heads, intake and all that stuff. I dont have no expierience with the 460 being only 16 but my current truck has a 390. Thanx. my plan is to start accumulating parts and in a few years I can take out a loan and really get going. Thanx

Well I think the best way to go is to use the 460 block. The 427 is an engine that is a lot more expensive to build with the horsepower numbers you seek. Besides the pure coolness and nostalgia of a 427 between the fenders of a cool old ride is far more appealing than as a rat race motor.
From what I have gathered from this forum you can look at spending 20-30K for a bullit proof monster. Your lookin at- -500cui stroker with billet crank, real good rods, forged pistons that can handle the horsepower you want. - Big bucks for heads, sounds like ported SVO heads are a sure bet. - Oh ya amd a big honkin cam, let alone the countless support peices like racing style high capacity oil pan, roller valvetrane, etc... - From what I have learned a 460 block can only handle 650-700 horsepower max??? One could build a wishlist as long as a freight train!!!!:-X12 |

>650-700 horsepower max??? > >One could build a wishlist as long as a freight >train!!!!:-X12 Ford Motorsport offer a crate motor built on a 2bolt main remanufactured 460 block that makes 600hp. It's a 514 stroker. I'd say a 4 bolt main would be able to handle it. The SVO 460 block can take 1500hp at 8kRPM or 9kRPM. |

Racers run 2-bolt blocks to 650-700hp on a regular basis with no main bearing walk problems.

i would run a 4 bolt main 460 block from SVO, stroked to 806. then twin turbo the mofo, and add lots of nitrous. should net you about 1750-2000 hp :-X10
or, what i would really do, is run a 600 cube stroker on twin turbos, no nitrous. for a truck pullin motor you want a lot of low and mid range TORQUE. so thats what we should be talking here, not hp. torque, torque, torque will be the name of the game. and nothing builds low end power like CUBIC INCHES and smaller sized turbos that spool up quickly. id stay away from the NOS because you really shouldnt run it in the lower rpms, and because it has a tendency to blow up a motor. i wouldnt run supercharged either, because for the amount of power that they add for the cost, you could have with twin turbos for a lot less. almost forgot, look for a motor with a longer stroke than bore. this combo also spells low end torque, albeit a lower revving motor. |

Actually you need top end HP, around 8000 rpms to keep wheel speed up. And you cant run power adders either. the guys on the FE forum know more about how to make a power with a 460 than you guys on the 460 forum.

It's not that we don't know how to make power, It's that we don't need to. The 460 engine make soo much power on their own with bolt-ons that any more power would cause a rift in the space time continuim. :-x10

Here's MY bored 460 motor 1000HP Build:
472 C.I. FORD Roller 13 to 1 / J&E Pistons Steel H Beam Rods 726 Roller ALUMINUM BLUE THUNDER Heads VICTOR 460 Intake 1150 HOLLY DOMINATOR This ran 8.63 in the 1/4 in a small fox body w/out NOS It's so MEAN it lurches forward when I start it like it wants to eat you. The slicks are studded to the rims. You wanna make a monster, the 460 is your ticket. I'm currently researching Diesel engines for my mint 89 F-250 2wd, to be discussed in its own thread, for now kid, get you a 460 and bore it out. Nothing beats the rumble of American made Detroit MUSCLE. |
wow what's up with dragging up 10yr old threads LOL

Build a forged BBF stroker, AFR heads, toss a ball bearing T88 on there, nice intercooler, spray a 200 shot, and have a second setup of nitrous to either spray the turbo to help it spool or spray the intercooler to make the boost (AIR) colder
