ford escort zx2 question

:-X25 I have a 2004 zx2 and have recently placed a cold air intake on it. Since then every once in a while when I stop it starts to miss and then dies. but starts right back up fine it also does it really bad when aircondition is on any ideas. I thought it might be the tps but never messed with it while installing the cold air intake...

Don't mess with the TPS, it doesn't control idle. The idle is controlled by the IAC, which is a solenoid valve that opens and closes as instructed by the computer and routes air around the throttle plate. When the A/C is turnd on it allows more ier though to compensate for the extra load placed on the engine.

You may have knocked something (like the electrical connector) loose during your install, or it might simply be time to clean or replace it. Here's some more info on it:

Thanks TigerDan I will check it out and let you know how it goes. I will unplug it if it is pluged in to see if I get any hesitation.

Just a thought, on my son's 93 Escort GT (the 1.8L DOHC engine) the mass air flow sensor is mounted on the side of the engine compartment, and there is a rubber boot / flex tube that goes to the intake manifold. This "hose" got a split in it, right at one of the folds. This caused the enigne to surge / quit running at idle as the engine rocked back and forth on the rubber engine mounts. The surge was quite violent at times. Hard to see the crack, and it took some time to figure out what was going on.

Is your set up like this, or could this be your problem? It could act like a bad IAC I imagine ??

That's not a bad thought, the engine doesn't like like it when any air is pulled into the system that didn't go through the MAF...worth checking. Might have pulled something loose during the install.
