Neutral safety switch wiring location on 78?

78 bronco with 351 and auto trans the nuetral safety switch on the drivers side of the tranny has never been hooked up since I bought the truck. I'm trying to wire in an auxilary back up light and figured out my factory lights don't work. Question is where does the four prong connector from the switch go to? The wiring diagram is of no help. I can't seem to find a matching connector anywhere on the truck. Please help. Travis

Thats because two of the wires are fed by separate power sources. The RED/LT. BLUE one from the start relay, and the PURPLE/ORANGE one that is fed by the directional/backup light fuse in the fuseblock. The RED/LT. BLUE continues on to the ignition switch and the BLACK/PINK continues on to the back up lights. So you won't find those four wires together anywhere else in the truck.

Just a note: The wire colors I have listed here are for a 1980 model so the wire colors in your 78 may be different.

Is the tranny original? IS the nuetral safety original? That could be why there is no matching connector. I haven't looked at the one on my 79 in a while so I can't tell you what it looks like or where the wires go - it's raining right now so once it dries out I'll give it a boo and let you know what I find.

In my Haynes it says - Disconnect the two multiple wire connectors.

Do you have two two wire connectors nearby?

I'm not sure if either are original I have a receipt for a tranny rebuild from the previous owner but no real idea. The four wires come off the switch and go into one four female factory type connector. For my purpose of back up lights could I just power the red black from a power source?

On the 4 prong, I would guess that one wire is from the start switch going to the neutral safety switch and the other is the return that goes to the starter solenoid. My neutral switch was bad on my 78, so I bypassed it at the 4 prong connector above the rear of the engine along the firewall. I can't check right now, but if you need to know which are the ignition wires, I can check tomorrow when there is some light.
