turn signal flashing fast...but both light bulbs work??

I'm chasing a turn signal problem on a 97 Fleetwood RV built on an E-350 Chassis.

The right turn signal is flashing fast like it does when a bulb is burned out, but both the front turn signal light and the rear turn signal light are fully operational.

With the turn signal off and the hazzards on, all 4 corners work like they should.

Not sure exactly how the circuit works, but once I turn the turn signal on with the hazzards on, everything continues to work, as soon as I turn the hazzards off with the turn signal still on, the right side goes back to flashing fast.

I'm coming up on a VA state inspection, will they pass me with the lights flashing fast as long as they both come on?

They should pass it. So long as it works and is discernable to other drivers. If everything is working, a few people have replaced the turnsignal switch, and it has fixed this problem. Ford calls it a multi-function switch, and they do give problems once in awhile.

Is it possible to remove the steering wheel to get to this without messing with the airbag?

BTW, thanks for the reply above.

Looks like the multifunction switch is 85 bucks on ebay. Before I start buying parts, is there any way to further troubleshoot this part?

I forgot to mention that this problem is also intermittent. Some times everything just works fine, but probably 80% of the time I use it the right side blinks fast.

You can play around with the signal lever and see if it makes a difference.

I do not have anything on a 97, but in 96 you did not have to remove the steering wheel according to the link below, to change the switch.

Had the exact same problem with my 95 Taurus. Took a quick look at the wiring diagram & found that the only difference between flasher & turn signal circuits was in the multifunction switch.

Took about 30 minutes to swap in a new switch. Problem solved.
