an interesting ethanol engine...
Compression fired like a diesel: Scania, another Scania report
|
Very nice article! :)
But I see that: To use the E95 blend in the diesel engine, Scania raised the compression ratio from 18:1 to 28:1, added larger fuel injection nozzles, and altered the injection timing. Different gaskets and filters are required, as well as larger fuel tanks—the engines burn 65% to 70% more ethanol than diesel. Very good info! -Thanks:) |
can't quite see ethanol being able to replace diesel or biodiesel, but would be interesting to see them apply it to lighter duty applications. I found another site that explored the small motors with compression ignition and turbo's with ethanol, and at higher rpm's, it came out better. I just can't see it in a heavy duty application though. PDF file: http://www.ifp.fr/IFP/fr/IFP02OGS.nsf/0/A035F6E8F33537C880256F94003B7A09/$file/jeuland1_vol59n6.pdf?openelement
