1978 F61 vin needs decoded

I found a 1978 24ft U-haul. And I need the vin decoded. I think its a 477 but it might also be a 361 FT.

F61(K)VCG1003 K=477 right? Thanks Jason....

Any one with info... I want to make a run from TN to New York. Putting a full tune up on it. Ungoverned carb, plugs, wires, changing over to electronic ingnition, filters, fluids, and maybe a fuel pump for insurance. But I need to find out engine displacement. Vin# F61KVCG1003

All Uhaul Fords from that time I have seen were F-600s. I don't have the info to decode that, But an F-600 would not have a 477. I think it likely is a 330 medium duty, which of course was part of the FE family. I am guessing a 4spd tranny, single spd rear axle? The Uhaul trucks just weren't a heavy duty chassis. Hope this is some help.

Go here and look. Code "C", which is in your vin, is a 330 md 2bbl.

VIN is 17 digits.

Google "Ford VIN" and you will see the 17 digit and engine code at number 8 is the way they all are for Ford. I think you are missing some numbers in your first post.

A 330 makes sense for this type of truck.

Also, look in the FE threads and the SD threads where folks have described the FE. There is a certain number of valve cover bolts, the plugs ange one way, and the biggest item is the intake manifold goes under the valve covers.

There are also pictures of SD motors in the SD threads.

You probably have the 330 and if you do, you are a lucky dog....

On pre 1980 models, the VIN is only 10 digits. I don't have anything on the HD/SD identification. K is the engine code for 1978 being the 4th digit. Ford also used some unusual sounding engine sizes to differentiate between medium, heavy and super duty. The had such gems as 359,360 and 361 and 389,390 and 391. Chances are it should probably use Motorcraft BTF31 plugs or equivilant (don't use Champions, they revised their heat ranges). There may be a tag under the temp sender with the engine size, and if you are real lucky, a sticker on the left valve cover.

Thanks... There is a tag on the fender with the 330MD , 330HD,and 359HD for an original equiped engine displacement. The truck has a 4 speed with a two speed rear. Is the 330 a better engine for use? Like gas milage or reliability...
