heating oil in my diesel?
I just took a tank out of a basement w/ 50-75 gallons of OLD heating oil in it. Im wondering if I can run this in my diesel (99 jetta TDI). I will be filtering it first, to get rid of any debris and growth, and probably mixing it with the B-20 that Ive been putting in my car.
Does anyone have any experience/opinions with this? |
I had a couple hundred gallon of heating oil in the basement of a house I owned that burned, and noone would come take it out, so I did it myself and ran it through my 86 F250, no problems. It is dyed, so actually illegal for road use, so be aware of that.. I haven't ever been busted for it, but know of some that have. Basically all the heating oil is is #2 diesel with red dye in it.

Also your heating oil may or may not be high sulfur if that would be of any concern to you. But yes heating oil and diesel are two names for exactly the same thing.

High sulfer diesel can damage injectors. I know that some construction equipment can run on high sulfer diesel.
