351w oil pressure sensor
Hello again. I've got a 351w, that didn't have an oil pressure sensor installed, so I bought one to go with the new vdo gauges. It's the 'canister' looking type. I installed it, wired it, but do not get an oil pressure reading. And as a rookie mistake, I took it out then cranked the engine to make sure I had pressure.....well guessing by the oil that squirted out across my garage, I think that's fine. Are there different types of sensors? I told the guy at Checker it was for a 351w with a pressure guage when I bought it. Any ideas?

Did the sending unit come with the VDO gauge? If not, I would imagine that you will have to purchase the matching VDO sending unit for that particular gauge....

If it is a one wire sender, it grounds to the block with the threads that screws into the block. I've seen senders that didn't work because they couldn't ground through teflon tape wrapped around the threads to prevent possible oil leaks. If you used any thread sealer, this may be your problem.

Well, I broke down and bought the vdo sending unit, and now it works. Lesson learned, can't mix vdo gauge, with a non vdo sender. Thanks everyone
