When a dealer starts making promises...be aware.

I am reading great reviews on the brand new reflash that has been out now for just a few days! It restores your trucks power AND increases milage, etc.

Hey AusTex,

How you going to get a mpg reading with the trailer trying to leave on a friday in Austin traffic? You may not get above idle on IH 35. HA! Hope you get better mpg with that trailer than I did taking that trailer back to Austin (somewhere around 8mpg).

AusTex F-250 10-10-2003 01:14 PM

Grinderman:

No doubt my good friend. It is going to be interesting. I hope that I will get more than 8 mpg. However, now that you have that new program, you will probably get 13-15 mpg, yea?

grinderman 10-10-2003 01:19 PM

That'd be great. However, before the last reflash, I still got 11 mpg with my fifth wheel. Still can't believe I got 8 mpg towing that other travel trailer. Like pulling a barge. Filled up again today after nothing but drive around town and one short 20 miles trip. Got 17.8 mpg. Should get a good reading this weekend when drive to SA and back.

Grinderman:

The trip up to S.A. will be a good indicator of your "new" highway mpg average. Unfortunately, the weather is looking pretty grim up here in the Hill Country which could make for a messy camping trip.

Don't feel bad Aus Tex, I drove to S.A. from Lovelady to spend time on the riverwalk with my sweety, we got wet but had fun.
Anyway, I have 305's and get 15.5 city and 19 hwy with 3800 on the odometer. Gets better every load. No if I can get my sweety's X back up after that June flash I would be happy.

I check my milage with a calculator not the console, its never right.

AusTex F-250 10-13-2003 08:01 AM

I said I would report back on my gas milage after my weekend camping trip (7,600 lb. travel trailer) and here is the report: I got 9.46 mpg on the way up. I did not get a chance to fill-up last night so I will do so after work -- traffic was much less Sunday morning (as compared to Friday evening) so I am expecting a better mpg showing. I calculate my MPG with a calculator as well (I don't even bother with the computer).

;) I don't understand your consern about fuel millage. My 6L w/Allison AT545 trans an 11.00x24.5 and a 265 in WB gets 12-14 MPG. I think thats great compaired to my last 7.3(T444E) ....

OH by the way, my 6L is in a school bus!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have about 7000 miles on it so far. The digital LED temperature/fuel-mileage/miles-to-empty guage shows I'm getting only 10-miles per gallon. If that is close to normal or actual, then I feel ripped off to get such horrible gas mileage. I was expecting around 13 to 15 mpg new and 18 to 20 mpg after about 35,000 miles (break-in).

I'm stumped, and so is the shop foreman at the Ford dealership. They can't reprogram my truck's computer because Ford's computer program software only goes up to size 285 tires. I'm just wondering if my tires are a 'big' contributer to my lousy fuel economy? Is 10-MPG normal for a new 6.0 liter diesel truck? I'm sure that the digital fuel economy readout may be somewhat skewed by the larger tires, but I can really tell that I'm sucking the fuel down.

My brother has a Black F250 7.3 liter diesel that looks almost identical to mine. However, he gets 17 mpg with his truck. Is there a solution to my delimna of lousy fuel economy? Is this normal? Everything on my 6.0L is completely stock with the exception of the 35" tires I mentioned and I also added a leaf to each 4 corners which raised it up about 2.5 to 3 inches.

Thank all of you for your comments.

You say you have 35" tires on your truck. depending on the tire manufacturer, these tires are approximately 8 to 10% larger than the stock tires, therefore you must multiply your odometer reading by 1.08 to 1.10 to calculate the actual mileage travelled. You can then divide the actual mileage by the number of gallons used to get a more accurate MPG. Actually, Ford did misrepresent the 6.0 in regard to fuel mileage. My '97 7.3 got 18 to 20 mpg, my 6.0 only got 13 mpg when it was new. I'm up to 16 mpg now, after some minor mods. I hope this info is helpful.

alright i got one for you

im driving 04 f350 6.0 cc drw fx4 lariat and i mostly drive city or "light to light" and i'm only getting 12.5 mpg on stock. whats up with that? i'm going on a hunt in texas 9 hour run so i'll find out hwy mpg.

sfd512 01-10-2007 07:21 AM

12.5 is probably average for your truck based on other owners that I have talked to. Unfortunately, that kind of mileage stinks for a Diesel. Mine was only 13 mpg when new, which was 5 -6 mpg less than my 7.3 was getting. One easy mod that I did was to install a conical type air filter element. I also drilled and cut out the opening in the radiator support directly in front of the air intake nozzle. Basically, I have a cold air intake with out spending hundreds of dollar to get one. This boosted my mpg's up by 1.5 mpg. You didn't mention what gears you are running in the rear end. Most of the 350's came with a 4:10 ratio, which will let you tow anything you want to, but will give less mpg than the 3.73 gears. let me know how you do on the highway.

This thread hasn't been hit in over three years....digging pretty deep....resurecting this one.

The original poster hasn't even been on-line here since.

Sorry, I'm new to the site and was actually looking for something else when I came across this topic. Just tried to offer some insight to the ongoing fuel economy problem of the 6.0's. I guess I will keep my mouth shut so as not to be chastised by the Experts.
