Axle yoke/Lower Ball Joint stud knocking
This morning I started reassembling my Dana 44 after replacing upper/lower ball joints. After installing the knuckle and torquing the upper and lower ball joints to proper specs I found that the axle yoke is knocking the lower ball joint stud. I've read that many just grind down the stud but is this the proper way? Also, the upper doesn't seem to full engage the A frame. What's the deal? (It's not flush like it was when I took it out)

Grinding down the stud is not the proper way.
It should go back together without any grinding. I'm just guessing, and bumping, but I think the yoke is not fully engaged into the housing, it needs to go further into the housing., But again, I'm just guessing. Re-examine your install procedure for misstakesl. |
Wrong joints or put them in the wrong place? Replaced 3 sets of ball joints (3 different trucks) in the last handful of years and never ran into that problem.
