Tried it all!!!

I've searched the forum and checked everything said and I still have a hesitation from a stop. Pump the peddle once and it goes. Timing/check,accelerator pump/check,fuel filter/check,! I'm lost. Great throttle responce in neutral. Drives great. Sometimes it bogs down at a gear shift too. Auto trans. Any help PLEASE. THANK YOU ALL!!!

What kind of carb do you have?

Alleycat3677 08-23-2014 09:49 PM

The carb is a ford refurbished two barrel Autolite. I have put less than 50 miles on the truck with the new carb. Bought it from an old time Carb shop. Watch the guy check everything and pressure test, etc etc.

Is the vac advance working?

Alleycat3677 08-23-2014 10:08 PM

Yes it is. Dizzy is new. Checked advance when I installed it a couple weeks ago.

I used to have a similar problem. Mine was in the carb. It was also a 2100. I had it apart and rebuilt 2 or 3 times. Soaked and all that stuff. I finally replaced it with an edelbrock and that completely solved the problem. Even though you have a rebuilt carb, I believe it is still the problem.

Alleycat3677 08-23-2014 10:13 PM

Yeah. I was wondering about that. Maybe over winter I'll save up and get one. Not a huge deal because I can still drive it but def frustrating. I think I'm going to have to bite the bullet and rebuild the engine and heads.

I wish it was an easy bolt on swap for a small block. They are a dime a dozen compared the FE big blocks. At least around where I live.

Don't get the wagon ahead of the horses. Get a good NEW carb and try that. Holley makes 2 barrels that will bolt right on.

FE 360 big block.

351Cleveland C4 08-23-2014 10:34 PM

Then if you want to just get a carb, a Holley 500 2barrel is what you need.

Alleycat3677 08-23-2014 10:35 PM

Okay. I'll give it a shot when I have the funds to do so.

JEFFFAFA should chime in tomorrow or Monday. He can give better advice.

Bogging down, stumbling, hesitating from a dead stop or when accelerating at speed usually caused by a defective accelerator pump diaphragm and check valve.

How long has this Auto-Lite carb been laying around before it was installed? Changes in the temperature cause these parts to harden up.

Both parts available by themselves or included in the carb kit. Both same 1962/74 Auto-Lite/Motorcraft 2100 series 2V.
