Transmission Temperature

My tranny temp seems to be a good bit higher than either of my previous trucks. I haven't towed yet but the temp was showing 205 degrees today during a routine unloaded trip. Is that normal?

Cant say for sure but I believe in the summer in temps in the 90s towing my 14k fiver my trans temp was max 205-210.Ill have to keep an eye on my edge cts tomorrow to see what my unloaded temp is but I THINK its less then 205.Just noticed yours is a dually so maybe it runs slightly hotter then my srw.

I seem to run right around 200-205 as well. Trans cooler is cooled with the coolant.

Not in front of the radiator with air on this one.

My 2011 F250 seems to settle between 192° and 201°.

I've never seen temps as high as yours but my truck is a bit smaller than yours.

2013 F350. Mines usually in the mid to high 190's without towing or hauling anything. That's been in chicagoland with these nice warm days in the low teens.

Normal. :-X06

Normal. Oil is cooled via the larger coolant loop which runs in that range.

My normal oil temp, unloaded, runs 195-201, I am out camping right now and just pulled my 10k 5er about 250 miles, ambient temp was 65, and the TFT stayed in the 205-214 range depending on the hills pulled. I have seen TFT's unloaded on I-35 unloaded with ambient at 70 running in the 205 range when running about an hour or a bit more, I never thought to much about.

Thank y'all. I'm in fort myers and it was low 80s yesterday. Wonder what it's going up to when I pull Mount Eagle Tn or some of the passes out west next summer. My 7.3L and 6.4L stayed around 170 even towing except for hard pulls when they would get to 195 or a little more.

good question on the summer temps. I did a run out to western MD back in Sept but didn't know how to monitor that. Lots of grades there all the way to OH.

Might be doing another Ohio meet soon so I might find out then.

You will have no trouble up Monteagle. The transmission has a thermostat which maintains temperature just like your engine. As tranny temps get hot the thermostat opens and provides more cooling to the transmission.

I'd be surprised if you saw 220° pulling your trailer up that grade.

That's good to hear as I'm pretty sure I blew a HG there the last time I went over.

In addition to what others have said the tranny fluid is synthetic and is rated to go 150k miles before an oil change with these new transmissions.

Thanks, I haven't gotten that far in the manual yet. Still trying to figure out the voice thing.

This is good to know. I was thinking of having mine done soon. Will wait a bit.
