Gas Tank
Hi, I replaced my in cab gas tank and sending unit with a new one on my 1958 Ford F250, since then I am getting gas leaking through the screws, SO I made sure I got a Vented Gas cap and I replaced the screws with new ones. STILL leaking gas out of my screws. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can DO or put on my screws to seal them up, something that can mix with Gas I guess. I asked about RTV silicone but I was told it will not work with gas, Has anybody else had this problem???? Thanks !!!

When I transfered my original sending unit into a newer tank between the frame rails. I used non-hardening permatex on the gasket and sealed the threads with Loctite blue thread sealant. It's not easy to see this area now, but I don't see any leaks or seepage down the tank. Not sure if thats by the book, but it's old habit.
When the tank was in the cab it never leaked or smelled, that was noticeable to me. Good luck in your quest. |

Hi, OK, I'm gonna try the loctite because that I haven't done and sounds like it will really work, for whatever reason this is happening and Old school or not remedies I will try. Thanks for the advice!!! One last thing I see you were able to post a picture of your truck on the threads, do you remember how to do that?? I was able to load my truck pictures into an album that is called "Work in Progress" but I can't figure out on how to post a picture of my Truck on my Post's. By the way I like your 4x4 on the picture looks pretty cool. Thanks again.

Who can afford to fill their gas tank up to the top???

Use a cork gasket, as "Spurredon" said, and you can add something extra, very small (small enough so they just fit over the screw threads) neoprene "O" rings, on each screw. Then just tighten down evenly, a little at each screw until well seated.
Hope this works for you. Aloha, Tony :-X06 |

Did you replace the sending unit gasket? If not, there's the cause, as you cannot use the old one over again, as cork shrinks with age.
