Plow on EcoBoost

Can you put a plow on a 150 with the EcoBoost motor.

No, because of the EPAS, Electric Power Assist Steering. Only the 6.2L trucks are plow rated because they have conventional steering. The electric load would be too demanding in the system.

Thank you.

I don't know coonman. I've seen lots of people put plows on trucks that aren't rated for it, and the steering system is still rated for the full max GAWR which depending on configuration may support a small plow.

I wouldn't put a plow on a half-ton truck, but if you want to I wouldn't let the steering stop you. What does the steering gear care whether you have a plow or not as long as you stay under your front GAWR?

Just did some searching around, and there are people who have put plows on their EB trucks. Do some reading at Plowsite.com.

One plow outfitter mentions putting them on more than a few EB trucks without issue.

I hear ya Tom but it's not a weight issue, it's an electrical load issue. There's no factory plow prep package available to beef up the front end on a truck equipped with EPAS. You can't even build one on Ford site.

If Ford sees that a plow was mounted to a truck with no plow prep package, warranty claims could be denied.

But hey, not my truck.

I would think that the plow would restrict air flow to the inter cooler?

It may but again, the primary reason that only the 6.2L trucks can mount a plow is because only the 6.2L trucks have a hydraulic PS unit whereas all other trucks are using the EPAS. (electric power assist steering) This system is apparently demanding too much electrical power to share with a new plow system.

The PCM measures temps on both sides of the CAC, and it has pretty accurate knock sensors. There are lots of things that can be adjusted to lack of CAC efficiency, so you wouldn't hurt anything.

I wonder when we'll have a high capacity alternator available for these things. Of course mine has to get out of the shop for it to even matter. :-down

Didn't Ford delete the option for plows on F150's 2013 and up?

I just went on the build and price site and built a 4x4 XLT with the 6.2L and the plow prep package was not an option like it was in the past.

I'm not going to play with it but maybe it's available on a RCLB truck.

Sno-Way makes a plow setup that is designed to work with the ecoboost. They're the only ones I've found.

We make a plow that mounts to 2011-2013 4x4 F-150s with the EcoBoost engine. You can read about it here and order one here.

If you have any questions about our SnowSport plows, please don't hesitate to ask.
