1986 Ford Aerostar with 2.9 V6?
Although the 1986 Ford Ranger compact truck and its Bronco II SUV counterpart had changed engines from the 2.8L Cologne V6 to the enlarged 2.9L version at mid-model year, then, why didn't the Aerostar follow in transitioning from the 2.8L V6 (which dates from 1974 and was used in both the Mustang II and the imported Capri) to the 2.9L V6?
I wonder if the Aerostar's failure to catalog the 2.9L in mid-1986 was because that model was obviously new for '86 (after having missed its potential sales run as a 1985 model, like the Taurus/Sable had)? But if it did, then the 2.8L (as well as the 2.9L that appeared in the 1986-1/2 Ranger/Bronco II) would've been deemed rare, because for 1987, the Cologne engine (in the Aerostar) was replaced by the then year-old, U.S.-made 3.0L "Vulcan" V6 that was introduced with the Taurus/Sable. ~Ben |
