airbag question

if the airbag light is on solid, does that mean the airbag system is immobilized yes or no?
no pass side airbag.:o

pawpaw 08-01-2013 10:21 PM

Yup, it means the airbag is off.

97ranger xlt 08-02-2013 05:47 AM

ok thanks - don't want it going off while driving down the road:-hair

97ranger xlt 08-07-2013 05:13 AM

now the light is out and the module is beeping- any adverse effects to unplugging it?

pawpaw 08-07-2013 07:28 AM

Does it just beep if someone is sitting in the seat without their seatbelt buckled????

it doesn't have that pretensioner feature if that's what you're asking. i know the RH crash sensor is bad as the light was flashing 4-4 but i'm just wondering if any adverse effects from unplugging the control module to stop the freekin beeping...:-huh

97ranger xlt 08-08-2013 05:00 AM

unplugged the module, drove 20miles it didn't blow up in my face:o
so.. the srs is disabled now ..yes?

oh and cruise control still worked.

Sounds like the passenger side module is now disabled. Your insurance company, or State Inspection may not be happy with this, so maybe consider a visit to a salvage yard for the replacement part/s needed, unless they require new parts for the reliability factor.

no passenger side airbag on mine just driver's side. i know the RH crash sensor up by the radiator is fubar'd...
hopefully the inspection won't reveal as for a '97 they don't hook up the obdii system to their computer because it's too old for emissions. time will tell.
so i can assume the srs system is disabled now right? since the control module is unplugged...

Yup the computer agrees with you, via its 44 code, that the front passenger side crash sensor mounting is faulty. Just replace it & you'll have your air bag protection back.

mounting? the entire sensor is a pile of rusted nothing right now ! the question is where to get one besides a boneyard or ford? any ideas?
