Sway bar on mustang II
I see people on here with sway bars on there ifs. Just curious if I will need one in the future. I have heidts crossmember with stock mustang II upper and lower control arms. I already installed strut rods. Here's some pics. Where would I install the sway bar if I needed one?

Yes you will need a sway bar. Im planning on using this one.
Total Cost Involved Mustang II Performance Front Sway Bar Kit It mounts on the back of the crossmember and then you just need to add mounts on the lower arms. Its the same type that tci includes in their hub o hub kit. |

Do I put on the sway bar after an alignment or can I do it now?

I'm pretty sure you can do it now. The alignment involves the upper a arm and the toe bar from the rack. Hope I'm not "steering" you in the wrong direction. Pun intended. Ax will be along to correct me I'm sure.:-X04

Yeah the bottom arm doesnt really get affected by alignment. The bar should be level though.

I'm kinda confused. What is the sway bar gonna do that the strut rod's don't? My strut rods connect the lower control arms to the frame to keep rigid

I am running a Fatman Fabrications MII IFS without a sway bar. The guys at Fatman call it "optional". The idea is to prevent body roll without significantly increasing the spring rate of the suspension.
So far, I'm thinking that I may add one, but the ride is so good as it is that I'm in no rush to do that. Dan |
All IFS will benefit from a sway bar. Strut rods just resist the lower control arm being forced back when you hit a pothole, RR track etc. The sway bar resists body roll and transfers weight to the inside wheel in the middle of a turn, no overlap of function. without a sway bar the nose heavy pickup is going to understeer/plow badly and feel like it's going to tip over when going around a curve at speed. whether or not you need one depends on how fast you drive.
