2007 Expedition battery being drained
 

I have a '07 Expedition with a battery drain. Hooked a meter up to it and after a couple mins the meter will show the truck is in "sleep" mode with a low mA reading. About every 30 secs the meter will jump to between 7-9 Amps for about 3-5 secs then back down to a low mA reading. Cant remember the actual low number, even reading 0. Even before the truck enters "sleep" mode the same cycle is going on, just the mA aren't as low of course. I'm thinking this is the smart junction box, but didn't have time to stay at my friends house using the meter to pull fuses. Also I was trying to find out what fuse number the SJB is. Any help please? Or ideas if I'm on the right track. Thanks!

Had a battery drain on my 07, turned out to be the rear wiper motor, common problem.

Rear wiper motor? How did you find out thats what it was? Any idea what fuse that is? Im gonna look it up now! Thanks fo the tip I'll check that out tomorrow.

Fuses 19 or 43 Check those tomorrow.

Fuse 19. I figured out my problem. I knew the rear wiper didn't work but the motor did, or tried to. When I would pop the rear window, the wiper motor would cycle then park. The the battery would not drain any more. Pulled fuse 19 until I could fix the rear wiper.

Fixed the rear wiper this evening. Search for rear wiper in this section for details but I basically removed the rear wiper arm, disassembled the pivot arm from the assembly, cleaned all the parts and reassembled it. Wiper works now.

Poor design allows grit to seep into the assembly and cause it to seize up.

Yep, same problem here on my 2007 Expo... knew the rear wiper pivot was crudding up lately, but didn't know it tries to "home" the wiper even with the KEY OFF. Found out by the dreaded dead batt. Had greased the pivot a few years back, guess I'll plan on doing it each Spring--oh well. Thanks for the previous posts, glad I wasn't the only one. I was scared the PCM was going goofy---glad it's only the wiper thing. Thanks guys!

Rear wiper pivots
 

The rear wiper pivot is a common cause of rear wiper not working and battery drain. The high amp draw intermittently is the GEM trying to return the wiper motor to the park position, which it can't because of seized pivot, unless you happen to open the rear window and in that case the wiper motor will park.

Yep, pull the hole thing apart, clean out the pivot tube and the pivot shaft, re-grease it and install a new o-ring. Mine has been great for the last 4 months of Northern IL winter since I fixed it.

Our 6 disc changer won't let you load cd's and just keeps cycling. I was told that can drain the battery as well. I learned that when we first bought it and the radio would not turn on. Turns out the previous owner had just pulled the fuse. That was about 4 months ago. I put a new fuse in it when we bought it and just now had the dead battery issue pop up.


I'm going to see if I can have the radio swapped this week.
