fuel pressure tester question
I'm looking for a gauge or tester kit to check my fuel pressure at the fuel bowl. The fuel pressure tester at sear specifically says not for diesel. Do you think this is just because they are assuming pressure will be above 100psi rating of the gauge in the fuel system or is there another reason the test kit would be incompatible with diesel?

The only reason I can think is for some reason there thinking your going to try to test it on the high pressure side.
I opted to just buy a fuel pressure gauge... I hope I don't need it but if I do it's always there |
My opinion is to just get a Isspro ev2 2" gage for inside the cab. Only about 2x or so the cost of a good "test" gage. Riffraf sells them. Fuel pressure is kind of important on these beasts.
|
I would love to put a permanent gauge in the cab unfortunately I don't know if its the cards. I'm looking to just check the pressure to make sure its shop shape for now as the test kit is only $40
Yea that's what I was thinking they are assuming the pressure will be out of the units range |
My pressure is bumped up for my injectors and I'm running 72psi. 100psi gage is fine.

Harbor freight is a good place that is where I got mine. You will need an adapter to tap into that port. It is the same as the hpop res plug on top.
|
A friend lent me one of those Harbor Freight testers to check my EV2 gauge with, they were within 2 psi of each other. Connected it to the bowl with a schraeder valve and adapter from dieselorings.
|
I ordered the adapter and valve from Bob last night so I'm all set with that. I didn't think of harbor freight that's a great idea, there's one 20 minutes from me. What did the set up cost there?

$20: Fuel Pressure Tester & Fuel Injection Pump Tester
Harbor Freight is never a great idea but some of their stuff performs acceptably at least once. |

They have all the stuff you need to build a quality test gauge. The will build the hose for you. Jeff |
#4ORB...200psi liquid filled gauge from Harbor freight. 18" flexible grease hose from harbor frieght. 1/4nptf x 1/8nptf adaptor from home depot.
Alls needed to test f/p psi. Just made one last week, worked perfect. lso then, you can test oil pressure at hpop resivoir plug too... |
Also, Strictly Diesel sells the made in USA liquid filled gauge that comes with their kits separately for $20. It has 1/8" NPT thread.

can someone post a pic of how to test fuel pressure ?
where is the fitting you test from or do you have to make the fitting yourself ? the fuel filter bowl is pressurized at 70 psi ??? No wonder if i don't get the lid on super tight it leaks ... Also where is the fitting you test high pressure oil ?? Im guessing these are not easily accessible! |
There are two outlets on the back side of the fuel bowl and they both have caps identical to the one on top of the HPOP reservoir. The one on the passenger side is pressure after the fuel filter, and the one on the driver side is before the fuel filter. If you want to see the pressure that your injectors actually experience, use the one on the passenger side. It's low and not easy to spot.

I bought the harbor freight kit. Is the gauge liquid filled? Is there a way to check the gauge for accuracy? I'm trying to convince myself it will read correctly.
