7.3L Diesel Problems
 

I have a 96 F350 with the 7.3L Powerstroke. Its starting to act up and i need to get it fixed as soon as possible but i dont know where to start. When under load, or just cruising, it almost seems to backfire. It sputters for a second, then since its in gear starts right back up again and blows white for a split second. It almost seems like im out of fuel or water in my fuel but no lights light up or anything. Its a really quick buck or jerk and shakes the whole truck. Like the engine was shut off and then starts right back up within a second. Ive tried draining the fuel bowl and replacing every filter and nothing seems to help. I drive it 250 miles a day at 85mph most of the way. I keep it steady at 3000 rpm. Sometimes it just shuts off completely and i have to pull over and spend 5 minutes cranking for it to start. Is this a fuel delivery problem, or something else? Thanks in advance

You ever changed the cps?

Dang at I thought that 65 at 1700 rpms was pushing it pretty good. I really don't like to drive fast.

My thoughts are CPS, or IDM.

That is running it PLENTY hard for sure.

My truck started to cut out and buck befor and it turned out to be the fpr screen was all really dirty.

Sounds like the CPS.

Another vote for CPS. Shift into overdrive, why the 3K rpm's?

Sounds like the CPS. With 4.10s and the ZF, I'm about 3k rpms in OD at 85. The CPS will be the least of worries when grandma pulls out in front of you at 85 mph.....:(

My truck acted that way and it was cps buy only ford or international ones tho and my daughter called me grandpa cause my truck rarely sees 65 in a 70

Smart man. I had to run mine at 72 in eastern washington, because the speed was like 70 or 75 and people were doing 80 or 85. Way too damn fast for me. I just don't even feel comfortable going that fast.

When I first got my truck I drove it 70 and learned real quick that my fuel went bye bye at that speed and these things r tanks you hit someone doing 70-80 they aren't going to stand much of a chance as well as myself if I had a front tire blow out at that speed. It's funny Im a 29 yr old getting passed by elderly people going faster then me and they just stare

Yeah exactly. Even with 4 wheel discs these things are hard to stop. Mine even more as I have a flatbed that weighs an additional 1k, and a bumper that weighs 200+. It makes you a better driver though.

You need 3.55s.
