Oil system upgrades/maintenance - let's get the info together!
 

While I've got my cooling system thread going on I decided it would be a good idea to get the oiling system upgrades/maintenance taken care of as well. There's not really gonna be a lot to it, but here's what I've got:

Drain and refill oiling system with Rotella T6 5W-40 and Rev-X
Motorcraft oil filter
Motorcraft oil filter cap
Install Fumoto drain valve for oil drain
Motorcraft oil cooler
Motorcraft updated STC fitting
Motorcraft updated HPOP screen
Motorcraft updated dummy plugs
Motorcraft updated stand pipes
Motorcraft updated turbo oil feed line
Motorcraft updated turbo oil return line
Motorcraft updated oil dipstick

Optional:
Install aftermarket metal oil filter cap (BPD or Sinister)
Install aftermarket metal oil fill cap (BPD)
Install aftermarket bypass oil filter setup (BPD)
Install aftermarket oil cooler assembly (IPPR or BPD)

I do know that IPR makes the external oil cooler setup for the OEM cooler and BPD makes their liquid/air oil cooler setup as well, but as stated in my cooling system thread I like the ability to heat the oil with the coolant so BPD's kit is out, not to mention it's very pricey. IPR's setup seems to only be a good idea for those people who don't DIY, and I don't like the idea of all the extra hoses and making it harder to do an oil change.

Is there anything I might be missing? Wasn't there something about changing stand pipes and dummy plugs? Just looking for anything to do with the oiling system. Thanks!

Sorry to hijack with a dumb question. What does STC stand (on the HPOP)for?

I do plan on the BPD upgrade and want to tackle all the other little issues while it is apart. Sounds like what you are doing.

Here's a pic of an '06 oil pump with the update branch tube fitting. It's the T shape piece near the drive gear in the back. An STC fitting looks exactly the same (and goes in the same place) except on the short piece of tubing there is a sliding piece that allows the installer to line every thing up easier/correctly when reinstalling the pump assembly. An updated STC fitting really isn't "snap to connect", it comes with a plastic bracket and holding hardware to ensure the T part of the fitting is lined up correctly to the pump before the whole assembly is installed. The plastic bracket and holding hardware is removed before installation.

In case you don't know, the 6.0 retains 3 to 4 qts. of existing oil when doing an oil change, therefore you will not be getting all of your additives out when you do the oil change/ flush.

I did not know it was that much.

The only time I performed a Oil system flush using kinda similar additives, it did not end well. I have successfully removed water from a boat oil sump doing multiple changes of cheap oil tho. No additives tho diesel was recommended.

I don't think I would be interested in doing an oil system flush with anything but fresh oil :-X15.

Ah, ok. It seems like a good idea to not try and do a flush then.

Makes sense now. I guess that's why I see almost nothing about doing oiling system flushes then.

So, are there any other oiling system "updated" parts I might be missing? I thought I read somewhere the dummy plugs and stand pipes were updated? Anything else?

Fumoto drain valve on the oil pan. Saves a possible mess and your in total control.

Don't forget updated stand pipes and dummy plugs.

Let's keep it going! I am wanting to get the complete list so I can start ordering parts for the rebuild!

I just replaced my turbo feed tube and oil pressure gauge (OPG).
I had to take the tube off to get to the OPG so I upgraded it.

If you have the braided feed tube, it's recommended you upgrade.
The OPG would frequently indicate no oil pressure and
make my "check gage" lite come on. My OPG sensor
wire was soaked with oil and it's a common problem with this gauge.

It was a PITA to get to this sensor once it's back on the engine.
it's only $30 at your local ford dealer.

I think that may have already been done on this truck but I will check into it for sure!
