88 7.3 diesel oil dipstick length

I would be obliged if someone would tell me the length of the oil dipstick.
I took my 88 F250 7.3 to get the oil changed. I asked if they filled it up because it wasn't full one time before. The attendant said yes and pulled out the dipstick to show me. He broke it as he was pushing it back in. Next, my nephew kicked the the part of the dipstick I needed to measure with out of the truck and lost it. I went to the junkyard to find one. There were no diesels there. The only ones I could find were with gas engines. I got the longest one out of a gasoline engine I could find which seems long enough, but I don't have any measurement. Thanking you in advance.

Bill:-huh

92 7.3... 28" from where it seats on the tube to the full mark. 1" from full to add mark.

Thanks for the info. I really needed it!!

Would the measurements be the same for the 88 7.3 as the 92 7.3?

The length shouldn't have changed. But make sure the dipstick tube is the proper length as well, or it will sit at the wrong height when inserted.

Thank you very much!!!

I am sorry that I didn't quite understand your explanation. I am still a little confused.
When you say "tube", are you meaning the tube in the engine block or the tube on the dipstick. If yours has a yellow handle, how far from the bottom of the yellow to the full mark.

Also, is there anyone on this forum living in the inland Empire near Fontana or San Bernardino with a 1988 F250 7.3 IDI?

I measured from the top of the yellow "hat" on the dipstick that goes around the dipstick tube in the engine block.
The dipstick goes into the tube and has the handle and "hat" attached.
When you insert the dipstick, the full mark is 28" from the top of the tube that remains in the block when the dipstick is removed.

Clear as mud, right? :)

Clear!!! Thanks again.
