performance chips for 2010 f-150 4.6L
 

I see advertisements for performance chips for my Ford F-150 4.6 L engine. Their ads usually say increase your mileage 4-7MPG, 35-70HP increase and torque increases. Do these really work or are they a rip-off as I suspect. The one that popped up when I visited my local Ford dealer site was for GForce Performance Chips $69. Also they claim they will not void your warranty, how can that be when you have to tap into the wiring controlling the IAT sensor. I bought one of these but I am thinking of sending it back unless I get some positive feed back.:-roll

you want more power?

go buy a SCT X3 and get custom tunes for the truck written. Be about $400 all told for the programmer and tuning.

send that POS back now. you are...no, YOU WILL BREAK YOUR MOTOR if you use that thing

that thing is a resistor. you place it between your IAT/MAF and the PCM. it modifies the signal sent to the PCM. basically it tells the PCM that the motor is 30-40F hotter. this causes the PCM to send less gas...aka it leans out the motor.

the more lean the A/F mixture, he more power you make. fine and good until you reach a point where cylinder temps are too high and you melt a piston. a 12:1 is "safe". the 09+ trucks see 15:1 at highways speeds...but that is with Ford's programming

The best upgrage performance wise I did with my 4.6 was to trade it in on a 5.0.

You will never see those gains out of any chip or programmer in a gas motor. Contact Mike @ 5Star, I run his tunes in mine and the shifting alone is worth the price. You won't read anything bad here about him, I have no experience with Troyer however.

That ad is total bogus, you were right to suspect its a rip off. A good out of the box tuner for the 4.6 is Edge CTS. Paid 585$ for mine.
