Off Road Lighting
Im on the topic of off road lights. So i thought id come back to the mature area for some actual discussion (as the 4x4 section clearly is not the place...see recent thread if desired).
SO ... topics of interest include: Make / Model of lights and why Legality of off road lights installed and Installation techniques |
No help on the lights, but WOW on your other thread. There's some quality people in that thread......

for the record, some of the other peoples comments have been deleted by the moderator. i couldnt believe it. sure, it was my first post in there... but i didnt think it warranted that type of treatment. i like the 6.7 crowd much better. clearly a more evolved bunch over here. ahh, glad to be back and sorry for the momentary venture to the dark side.

I had 4 KC Slimlites on my 2000. They were awesome, insanely bright (imo), and you can't go wrong with KCs warranty. I had them mounted on a Randy Ellis Designs light bar. I had 2 fogs, 2 beams, they were blinding, and of course illegal out here in PA. I was living in AZ when I bought/installed them and used them at the dunes alot, never a problem with them.
They didn't last long here in PA though. Not a good environment for them. I ended up cutting some old flaps for covers so it would pass inspection. https://www.ford-trucks.com/user_gal...oid=87418&.jpg https://www.ford-trucks.com/user_gal...oid=63058&.jpg https://www.ford-trucks.com/user_gal...oid=63060&.jpg |

Dang, I was just checked your post and you somehow miffed off the whole trailor park with a question :-jammin!! I to have the KC lights. I am not sure of the number but they are 120 watts and black powder coated to match our trucks. They are holding up great in the NY winters and not expensive.
|
120watts would put me over my power budget as im thinkin to put all 3 on one switch. but that brings up another thought i forgot to mention... what type of beam do you guys think? spot (pencil), euro, or cornering (dont even know what that is)...
|
Depends on the type of driving you do....
back roads and woods where the deer and the antelope play ? cornering in the wide open spaces like here in TexUS - driving - spot... cuz the rest of your lights will cover the sides, etc.... You got me thinking about the led lite bar too.... sure would look nice in place of my front license plate :) |
Isnt the euro the mix of the various type? Aka best of both worlds
|
You could always use the smaller upfitter to power a relay and the lights. I am not sure what type mine are (i think spot light) I can look tommorow if you are interested. They light up nicely 200 yrds. long and 30 yrds. wide

WOW.... THAT'S ALL I CAN SAY:-X15 |
Isnt the euro the mix of the various type? Aka best of both worlds. Maybe one spot in the center facing straight ahead and then two euros or cornering on the outside facing slightly outward

You can only do three lights with that bar? I did 4 lights on my last truck, 2 beams on the outside pointed towards ditch (lots of deers and moose up here) with floods down the middle. Worked pretty good, 130w each, ran them off a seperate relay.
|
I agree with Cold One's idea about the relay.
Slightly off topic, but is anyone working on "flipping" the headlights with the marker lights? I'm thinking there would need to be an all new reflector assembly swaped for the factory. I need a higher light beam to shine over my crops. |
