I didn't like this answer from my dealer, but the diesel tech said that our trucks have 100000 mile coolant and the check was really just a way to get the owners to check their coolant level. He then proceeded to show me how to reset it. I ask if they were not suppose to check the ph, and he said he would when they pulled it into the shop. Had some warranty work and a part ordered for my passenger power mirror, so I don't know yet if they actually did the check. I will find out when I go back in to get my mirror switch replaced.

The factory coolant is good for 105,000 miles.
The test is to check for certain things (specifics are at home) to keep a healty coolant system, which is important.
If there is a problem, testing every 15,000 will report this and an early flush may be required to keep the system healthy.

Make sure they have on the paperwork they checked it so at least you have a record.
I don't like that answer either.

I got a new main radiator at about 50,000 miles. New coolant. Then, I had both systems flushed (really, I insisted that they use the machine to flush properly) at 102,000.

If I don't need any more service to the coolant systems, I would not flush again until I go at least 60,000 more miles. Depends on how the coolant looks. I did get some dark staining of the walls of the degassing bottle so I guess I wouldn't push it to 100k.

As y'all know, I average a little over 5,000 miles each month driving long distances on interstates with medium heavy trailers. My engine load is not excessive, just long hours. The coolant temps when I drive rarely get above 220 (going by oil temp) so I'm not really working the truck hard by idling a lot or tugging really heavy loads.

For example, my driving is so smooth and easy on the truck, I almost always get at least 55,000 miles out of a set of tires.

And by the way, I had the trans flushed too at 102,000.

I drove about 450 miles today and got 13.9 mpg with my trailer, odo says 104,890. Lovin my truck!

Thank you sir, I was planning on having mine changed at 100,000 kM (65,000 miles). I think I will stick with that plan unless I notice any issues.

Reading that manual is a great thing Tux, but it isn't always the best thing for all driving situations. Sometimes you just have to use your gut.

I got them both here:
Acustrip Antifreeze Coolant Test Products

Look for the Rotunda part numbers.
If I had it to do again, I would only buy the 328-00008 (contamination) here for $50.00.
The 328-00001 I had to order 100's min order and they only last a year so 95% of them will be going in the garbage. The 328-00001 is a pretty standars test kit as far as I know. I believe you can get it at almost any auto parts store for pretty cheap.

I don't know anywhere else you can get the 328-00008.....

Thanks

Should add the 328-00008 kits apear to have a shelf life of about 2 years. I will not use all 10 in 2 years but still more convenient that going to the dealer:-X04

Would do my friend but you can't break up the 00008 kit, there is only 1 color chart etc. If you want 00001's send your address and how many you want cuz I got 100's (but I think they expire soon).:)

Maybe i should develop my own kit and sell it in packs of a hundred. And have a shelf life of the time it takes to receive them in the mail. And will consist of sticking your finger in the radiator then in .....ah nevermind

I had this message pestering me here about 13,500 miles. I took it in to the dealership today and they put me down for a $25 work order. It checked out fine and they only charged me $14.95.
