__08 F350 CC 4X4 Diesel. Upgrades? MPG?

22K miles
35" tires
MPG stinks...
Not looking to spend more than a thousand or so at most.

What are you getting for MPG?

The 6.4 isn't known for great mileage.

Musher 02-19-2012 02:59 PM

12.. eh I tell you its enough (lack of) to make me a non believer :'(

drop the tires back down to stock for one. Watch your speeds and try to take off slower and coast. Keep rpms below 2K and stay off the boost.

Other issue maybe 4 tons of mass in stop and go traffic..takes a considerable amount of fuel.

Im assuming you mean 22K miles per year because if you mean total miles on your PSD, I wouldnt even worry about it......because you dont drive it enough.

Are you using Cetane booster? Ive heard that will give you a little bit.

Musher 02-19-2012 08:00 PM

I feel like I'm walkin on eggshells to get a little decent fuel milage as it is....Very little difference on heavy foot or light foot. I might get an extra mile on the open HWY... and I at least want some 35's on it also.

You don't say what the rear axle is but with the 35s and a 4x4 12 MPG is about what you should expect, that's just the nature of the truck. There are some gains available with mods but your stated budget makes the selection pretty slim. I think you can get a tuner called DPF Delete (maybe DPF-R) or something like that for around 500 buckaroos and a delete pipe for maybe 250 bucks. Check on ebay for prices just put in the truck info and "DPF delete" and get the current prices. Use the other 250 to buy enough beer to get you in a mood where you can part with the 35s. Do all that and you might get 2 MPG better on average. Sorry, but that's the situation.

staying off the boost is wise and 65-70 mph tops .I did a trip 220 miles R/T used 12 gals. and was followin the boost advice hope to repeat that more often [banks 6gun set on "econ"]

Axle is 3.73

It sounds like 12 mpg is about it with this truck.
I'm sure I could spend several thousand with intake and exhaust to get another mile or two maybe.

Are there not cosequences to the system with a "DPF" delete?

Are other programmers any benifit to this motor?

senix 02-20-2012 01:13 PM

I can get 14 stock and 17 ish with the banks.

You can do a bit better. I think Sennix has a 3.73 and he is DPF on with the banks. I don't think there is much down side to the Delete tuner with mild tunes. 50 HP or so. At least I don't recall anyone talking about them. Of course you lose the warranty if you have one. And it is a federal crime. And a PITA if you have to go back to stock for an emmissions inspection.

My truck is a 4.30 with DRWs. I deleted for less than your stated budget. Bought a used tuner from Craigs and a pipe from ebay. $600 plus I had to buy a sensor beecause I couldn't get one out of the old pipe. I don't have a lot of data yet but I'm getting 10 MPG towing on three trips, a 1 to 1.5 MPG increase. On my last check of mixed driving half highway half city I got 14.3 and that's the best I've ever done. Again a 1 to 2 MPG increase. That's probably the best I'm gonna get but you should do better with a 3.73. I think given where the price of diesel is going a 10 or 15 percent gain might be worth it.
