Its looking better all the time. Like those somewhat rare original wheels you have. They shouldn't be as they made them for 13 years but people just threw them out usually in favor of aftermarkets. That and so many F250s weren't saved. I was lucky to find a set for my '62. I'm an F250 person myself.

Go Huskers! Just subscribed to your thread because I have a 1955 F350 that I would like to get started restoring. Grandpa bought it new and have held on to it all these years. It has the same engine (Y 239). I look forward to using this thread a resource as I move forward. If interested I will share pictures. As far as being a Husker fan....born and raised in Nebraska!

Dave, Welcome to FTE!
I just checked out your truck in our album. It's in great shape.
I would suggest getting the engine running and make sure the brakes are in good order and take it out for a spin. I would discourage doing what I have done unless you have the time, skill and money. My project has gone on for way to many years.

Go ahead and start a build thread and post pictures, plans and work you do on your truck. Take lots of pictures, then take a lot more. Any part you take off bag and tag, you will forget where it went, guaranteed.

I was born and raised in Missouri, but my college experience at Nebraska was fantastic. My oldest is really enjoying it up there as well now.

Thanks, I can't wait to get it to a point where I can get plates for it and drive it around. It's been a long road with still lots of ground to cover.

Not from Nebraska but I like the endless prairie and country up there. Seems quite laid back. I would get along with it well if it weren't for those long cold winters.

Thanks for the advise Harrier. I think this is what I plan to do. Since it's been 20 years since it has been running and driven, I'm all jacked up to get it on the road. So far I had to get the carb and high mount fan water pump rebuilt. Other than that, I got fire to the plugs. Brakes and clutch all dried out so I need to get to that also. Don't get discouraged with your project as long as you are moving forward. Some day....! Thank you for being an inspiration to the rest of us.

It's been a while since I have posted an update.
I have replaced my rear pins, shackles and Y-hangers. Here is my thread with some of that.
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...questions.html
I will need to dig up some pictures of that, but not much more to see than what is in that thread.

I'm starting to make a little progress on my flatbed.
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...ript-beds.html
I got the end piece made and I'm starting to clean things up and paint. But it's going slow. I may not use this bed for long though. My son is taking an Ag Construction class this fall and he wants to make a flatbed for my truck in this class. Well that is way cooler than even a Ford Script bed. We will see where that goes. If he gets to, I will have a bed for sale come next spring, that someone should just be able to put on their truck and go.

I ordered the front spring and shackle kit and while I was at it I ordered a Transmission Cover Seal. It was for the 48-52 trucks, but it looked like it would fit. You can't find one for the 53-56, they just aren't made and I can't find it in the parts catalog. It's like it never existed.....
Well the one I got had a hole too small. (Anyone want that one? PM me and it's yours.) But it gave me a template and the density of the foam. So I went to Walmart and bought a garden kneeling pad ($5) and a camping seat cushion ($4). My first attempt is with the kneeling pad.

I used my cheap calipers to measure the diameter of the base of the transmission and got 3.75", I then took a string and got the circumference (12") and divided by Pi and got 3.8". OK close enough. I ran around the house with a tape to see if I could find a lid that diameter.

Yeah it's a hack job... But it is a cheap experiment.

The pad is 1" think and that should work. 1.25" might be better if you could find it and have it be compressed more.

It seems to fit pretty good. So two things, I really need black foam and a good knife.

Interesting, Joe! Very good job. Maybe you can mass produce them and make your tidy Million.

Can you make the donut that goes around the emergency brake?

Harrier 05-06-2016 10:12 PM

So Abe, how many 53-56 trucks are out there with a floor shift? :) Maybe make my tidy $10.

The gear shift has a platform for the seal to rest on. The emergency brake doesn't have anything like that. I guess you could take some adhesive and attach it to the cover...The movement of the lever would wear out the seal pretty quickly or there would still be a bit of a hole. Boy, you would think they had something though.... I will have to ponder that. It may be that a boot on top would be the best choice although I don't like that too much.

What are the dimensions of your Ford bed?

The one I have is 74" by 99"
That is a little narrower and a little longer than a standard F250 bed. The 74" wide is perfect for me because it is the width of the front fenders and I don't need the extra width of the standard size bed.
The 99" is a little longer than the normal stock bed (I think 93" is standard.) That works for me. If Sam makes one for me though, I will have it go just to the end of the frame.

I think the bed was from a 30's or 40's truck but I'm not sure.

OT - but I was looking for pictures of my new flatbed end piece and came across this picture. I was looking for screws at Orschlens (A Missouri farm store) and came across the unfinished screw. I had to buy it, never know when you might need something like this. :)

It looks like you got screwed!

Hey Joe, I tore into my cab today and just wanted to share what I found around my e-brake. Not much for insulation and filling the gap, but pretty sure it is what was originally installed. Any trips to Lincoln lately?

Harrier 05-08-2016 01:27 PM

Dave, that is interesting. Almost like a weatherstripping or something. I will have to look into what might replace that.
We haven't been to Lincoln for a few weeks. My daughter ran her last track meet of the season yesterday, but we didn't get up for it. The Big 10 Track championships are in Lincoln next weekend, but I don't think I will head up. Elizabeth isn't running and we have been going so much. But it sure would be fun to watch.
