Key won't turn and Wheel is locked in place?

Need some help I turn my steering wheel while the truck was off and in park and now I can't get the key to move and start the truck nor can I get the steering wheel to move. What have I done and how can I fix it?

Thanks

What was the fix ??

Was probably in a "bind" against the lock.

Generally you 'go ape' on the steering wheel, left and right, while wiggling the key, and it'll pop free.
Here's how to drive the truck to a stop and avoid such problems and parking pawl damage in the trans; stop the truck with the service brake and wheels straight and hold the brake pedal firmly - holding the brake pedal, put the trans in Park - still holding the brake pedal, set the parking brake. Turn off ignition and release the service brake.
Okay, I realized that the complete process should be listed; Now to go, start the engine; depress the service brake and hold it - release the parking brake - put trans in gear - release service brake.

No yanking on the wheel, no yanking the shift lever stuck in Park, just smooth, easy operation doing things the right way. Try it for a refreshing change.

I locked the steering wheel. All I had to do was turn wheel as far as I could to the right (which was about 1/2") and the turn key forward without forcing anything and it unlocked.

I locked it by turning the wheel while the truck was off just trying to straighten out the front wheels some.

Happens all the time. At least you didn't call AAA. I went to a few of those calls when I was starting out someone bought a new car now the key wont turn. The people were always embarassed when I explained to them what happend. Just the other day a lady went around the block and came straight back in her explorer because it had no power after I worked on it. The service advisor released the parking brake and told her to have a nice day.

We were on a large-scale weeklong man hunt once, was a remote section of a rural county. One of the armored cars had half a dozen tac team members in it, one team member, a new member on the team, was driving. One day they went to check a section of woods for a possible sighting called in, it was down a narrow dirt road. They arrived, searched the woods, found where the guy had been in a hole, but that was a cold trail now, so they climbed back into the armored car to go back to the command post.

Suddenly, the armored car would not move.

A Sgt. at the command post decided to call a large wrecker, but the wrecker had to get there by driving a long way around some 30 miles total as the armored car had the narrow dirt road blocked too, Wrecker driver got there, first think he did was he jumped in the 30,xxx pound armored car to double check brake air and to put the transfer case in neutral so to hook up and pull it, and he found it was already in neutral ... so he put the transfer case in 4-lo, then he drove it up to the wrecker. Somehow the transfer case had gotten shifted into neutral, and no one thought to check it. Maybe was a bump by a leg or something, never knew.

umm! dont saw on steering wheel when truck is off, and if you park on steep hill/grade, step on parking brake, then put in neutral, then put in park, then turn engine off, or you may never get it out of park, seen this happen also.
