6.7 engine block heater
 

Hey guys how bout a little help. I bought a 250 6.7 this spring thinking all diesels come with a block heater. Well this one does not, can not find one on the web as im sure i could install it myself, to new i guess. Eany ideas what the dealer would charge? Its starting to get cold here in Ohio and it takes forever for this beast to warm up. Thanks

My truck also came without the block heater, but the dealer lied to me and said it had one. I didn't double check before taking delivery and like you, figured all diesels have one right. Found out when I was installing my plow mount, I don't have a block heater. I called my salesmen and he told me they would put one in for $450 (parts and labor). I ended up taking to the sales manager and he gave me a block heater at no charge, since the truck was supposed to have one to begin with.

In short, service told me it was about $250 for parts and $200 for labor. If I remember right it was something like $145 for the cord and $100 for the element itself. Call your dealer to find out for sure.

Thanks Andrew, wow 450.00 seams very high. The one they gave you at dealer, did you put it in yourself? I would think is a fairly easy install on those. Think i will go down to the dealer saturday and try to get one as they all should be stock factory items IMO.

Previous generation of Powerstroke engines allhad the element in the block, The option was just to get the cord. The 6.7L is the first powerstroke to not come standard with the element installed. ( it is standard in about 14 cold weather states). I ordered my truck with out the block heater, assuming if I needed it I could just buy the cord like my previous 4 Superduty trucks. Not so.

The install involved pulling the plug from the block and inserting the new element and then attaching and running the cord. There will be some fluid loss when pull the plug. I've heard around high $300 for the going rate, but have not priced it out myself.

$450 was installed. The dealer decided to go ahead and give my the heater and install it at no charge.

The parts had to be ordered and took 3-4 days to get in. I was surprised neither the element or cord was in stock and had to be ordered.

The block heater will help as a starting aid if it is v cold, but makes little difference in the time it takes for the the truck to throw heat. For that, the diesel fired block heater is the optimal solution (espar, Webasto)

Its a shame it costs that much after the fact. I ordered mine with the heater and if I remember correctly it was a $75.00 option. I probably will never use it but at least it is there if I need it.:)

It was only a $75 option according to my window sticker. I'b be pissed if they wanted $450 for a $75 option.

I specifically ordered the block heater on my truck. The $75 charge shows up on my window sticker, yet it never got installed. 13 months later I still don't have a block heater. I only travel 9 miles back and forth to work and it would be nice to have the extra heat in the motor before the truck starts. I guess I will have to go argue with the dealer sometime soon and get this straightened out.

That's bs. I also ordered one and will not be happy if it does not show up. Why so long to get this resolved?

Take your truck, bill of sale, window sticker and go back to dealer and demand that they install your block heater FREE OF CHARGE, since you've already paid for it.

A couple of options for those wanting to install the block heater...


OEM option...

Element - Ford P/N: BC3Z-6A051-A (MSRP $30.43)
Cord - Ford P/N: BC3Z-6B018-C (MSRP $135.77)

You can pick-up the element and cord online from places like Tousley or Tasca for around $110 plus shipping.


Another option at half the price or less is a ZeroStart (Phillips & Temro) block heater kit. The only difference here is the cord is a generic one, so you will have to route and secure it as you choose. It does not have the wire loom and hangers like the Ford OEM cord. Ford sources the OEM heaters from P & T.

The ZeroStart P/N is 3500069 and you should be able to pick up the kit for $60 or less.

My dealer must mark up the parts a bit more. They quoted me almost $100 more for the parts alone...
