Dual snorkel air cleaner retrofit question
 
I wasn't sure where to post this, so I figured I'd start here in the Intakes, Filters and Ram Air section.

I quite accidentally stumbled across a dual snorkel air cleaner the other day, very much like what you would find on a 85 Mustang GT or a carburated 460 pickup:

I thought it might be a fun/different project for the truck, and I like the idea of the dual snorkels to get some cooler air into the engine. I don't expect much of a mileage or performance increase. My question involves how to hook up the vacuum motors for the heat riser flappers. Bear with me while I try to explain what I'm thinking here...

I've eliminated the EGR on my truck but I still have the thermo vacuum switch stuck in the coolant crossover in the intake manifold. I'm thinking I can plug one side the switch into a manifold vacuum source and T the other side to the pair of vacuum motors that control the heat riser flappers. I'll be building a pair of hot air stoves to pull heated air off my exhaust. This configuration should supply hot air until the coolant warms up to the point where the thermo switch opens and pulls vacuum on the motors, closing the flappers. I should get nice cool ambient air through the snorkel ducts as long as the engine is warmed up.

So, does that sound like it will work?

I fabricated one on one of my GMs and used the temp control in the air cleaner to operate both. It was more for looks and it was a conversation piece and I'm pretty sure it didn't add any power. I was able to adjust the vac temp controller to about 50 deg from the stock 100. I also thought about using a coolant temp switched vac source as plan "B" but I wanted some heat to keep temp above 40.
