'65 Econoline Data Plate
I picked up a '65 E-160 Supervan back in July...
It's an extended regular van that went to the Los Angeles DSO from Loran, OH in March of 1965 with a 240 six "under the hood". It has a 90 inch wheel base, is (and was in March of '65) dark green with a standard green vinyl interior, but here's where it gets sticky: There are a few of the PLATE codes I'm having trouble with... under BODY the plate reads: "3 89" the 3 is standard green vinyl interior, right? But, what's the 89? under TRANS the plate reads: "4G"what's a 4G transmission? under AXLE the plate reads: "13"what's a 13 AXLE? That's all I've got for now, but I'll be around. :)Pete from Phoenix / Charlotte http://flickr.com/gp/40848142@N06/X1WT84 |

under TRANS the plate reads: "4G" what's a 4G transmission? under AXLE the plate reads: "13" what's a 13 AXLE? in 1965, the G meant 3-speed trans. In 1966, the G meant C-4 Automatic. Which do you have? There was no 13 axel code in 1965. Your Diff tag says 3.00 ratio which was not available that year. In 1966, the 13 axel is a 4.56 ratio 9-inch rear. Is the cover on the front or rear of your differential? The dark green might be military, and sometimes they had special orders with special numbers. What's your VIN? Maybe you have a 1965/1966 hybrid. |

The tag on the Diff reads: WCR-L / 3.00 5CC 765
. 5CC = Assembled the 3rd week (C) of March (C), 1965 (5). 765 = Assembly Plant code.

Warranty Plate AXLE code: 01 = 1965 WCR-L / WCR-L AXLE code used 1965 only. TRANS code: G = C4 Cruise-O-Matic. |

Warranty Plate AXLE code: 01 = 1965 WCR-L / WCR-L AXLE code used 1965 only. TRANS code: G = C4 Cruise-O-Matic. One problem might be that my shop manual was printed in September 1964, which is before the 1965 trucks were actually built. |

I'm confused because my 1965 Ford Econoline Shop Manual says that in 1965 the G transmission was 3-speed, and the 01 axle was 3.50 ratio.
One problem might be that my shop manual was printed in September 1964, which is before the 1965 trucks were actually built. F100/350 & Econoline: Ford used the Warranty Plate A/T code of G thru 1972 (actually thru 1978) for ALL A/T's. One had to know which A/T was available with what engine. 1964/72 Ford Truck Parts Catalog / Text Section 40.1, Page 5 / 1964/65 Warranty or Rating Plate Code Chart: 01 = Single Speed (1964) 3.50-1 (2.3M) Ford (WCC-A) Rear Axle Parts List # 89. 01 = Single Speed (1965) 3.00-1 (2.7M) Ford (WCR-L) Rear Axle Parts List #163. Since historically, new vehicle introduction begins in September of the previous year, new vehicle production begins in August. 1965 model year began September 1964. |
I guess this means that the parts catalog has more accurate information than the shop manual.

...No such thing as an E-160 SuperVan. 1961/67 Econolines are all E100's. Post the VIN & MODEL code stamped on Warranty Plate.
Warranty Plate AXLE code: 01 = 1965 WCR-L / WCR-L AXLE code used 1965 only. TRANS code: G = C4 Cruise-O-Matic. The VIN: E16JH... The Model code: E160 http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6165/6...0b383ebd_z.jpg My indication that it was a 160 SuperVan came from the data plate info in the shop manual I purchased. Thanks AGAIN NumberDummy. p |

The VIN: E16JH... The Model code: E160 http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6165/6...0b383ebd_z.jpg My indication that it was a 160 SuperVan came from the data plate info in the shop manual I purchased. E16 = E100 Super Van. J = 240 IV 1-6. H = Lorain OH Assembly Plant Serial number blanked out. 90" Wheelbase. L = Holly Green. E160 = E100 Van (Extended), 3,600 lbs. GVWR 389: 3 = Medium Green Crush Vinyl & Medium Green Stitch Pattern Vinyl / 89 = Econoline Van. 4G: 4 = ? / G = C4 Cruise-O-Matic. 13 = Ford 9" Rear Axle / 4.57-1 / non Limited Slip. 3,600 lbs. Gross Vehicle Weight Rating. 129 net HP @ 4,000 RPM. 71 = Los Angese (SoCal) Ford District Sales Office, where the original selling dealer ordered the Econoline from. Oddities: What the 4 refers to in the trans code, I haven't the slightest idea. IMO, it was stamped in error. When you have a 240 I-6 in a 1965/74 Econoline, the only A/T available was the C4. J VIN engine code was only used in 1965 for the 240 / A = 1966/74. The E160 model code isn't listed until 1966, and there are different 4 variations of E160. |
That tag looks like it says 190 for the wheelbase. It looks like a 1 in front of the 90.
If so. That tag most likely has errors when stamped. |
I will correct myself. I blew the pic up and that is an 0 in front of the 90.

The dummy I got this thing from left the keys in it while it was parked with the for sale sign on it & someone took the keys. :-roll Thanks! |
Have you looked at the brace at the back of the van. Behind the taillights. They will stamp the serial number into the metal of one of those cross braces behind the taillight. The tag from what I can make is a 65-66 extended paneled van. with a 240 engine and 3 spd trans. According to what is available on the pic of the tag.
