bypassing tank selector valve
 
88 f250 5.0

ive already eliminated the rear fuel tank and removed the rear fuel lines. what can i use to connect the front tank return and supply lines together while eliminating the selector valve?

id like to keep the factory lines in place instead of running new rubber supply and return lines if i could.

You can use a single tank reservoir.
Found at most salvage yards on 86-89 Broncos and Bronco II. On some one tank trucks also.

thanks for the info. ill look at my local pick a part to see if i can yank one this weekend.

do the single tank reservoirs have the same problems as the dual ones? i think my current one is stuck in between tanks at the moment.

anyone else use anything else to take the place of the reservoir? just looking for ideas in case i cant find one immediately.

finding a single tank resevoiris easy.you can get one out of a bronco,bronco ll,or truck w/ a single tank.you'll just have to clean the crap out of it.literally.i removed my front tank and had to do that.i've got alot of good info off this site.thank you FTE.

The single tank reservoirs do not have the same problems as the dual ones.
There is no moving parts. Just the reservoir for the high pressure pump.
Without the reservoir you will engine surging and lack of fuel on hills and WOT operations.
The 1985-86 ones will have a filter in them. If you have a filter on the frame you do not have to put the filter back in the single tank reservoir. But you may have to buy a filter for a 86 to get the "O" ring if you take the cup off the bottom to clean it out.

thanks so much for that info!! in the pick a part near me they have several broncos so finding a reservoir shouldnt be a problem. unfortunately its raining here today, so im going to head out first thing tomorrow to see if i can snag one.

should i have to get on 85-86 reservoir with a filter, can i get this filter and oring at advance?

when i clean and reinstall it is there any benefit just to install the new filter or should i just leave it out? i have a new filter on the frame, i just thought an extra filter wouldnt hurt lol

Some trucks in 86 had both the filter on the frame and one in the reservoir. It is up to you if you use both filter if you find one that is made for the filter but the frame filter is on there for the injectors.

Yes Advance auto parts should sell the filter.

i went to the junkyard today in search of the reservoir and i got one off of an 88 bronco 2. it looks just like the one in the previous post, and is def a single tank one but the bowl is MUCH bigger. it seems to be a newer part, it doesnt look that old. i almost got one off of a 86 bronco 2 with the shallow bowl (like the one in the pic above) but when i pulled the lines off it they were full of rust so i passed on that one and ended up pulling the one off the 88.

im going to pull the bowl tomorrow and clean it out and replace the filter (if there is one that is)

I have disconnected the selector valve on my 1997 f250, and am only using the front tank. How do I bypass the wiring to make my feul guage work for the front? It has a 6 pin plug

I edited the image above as it was wrong.
Note that a 1997 do not have a selector valve.
The plug above is for the dash selector switch.
Pin #6 to #5 runs the front pump.

Well it does have a selector valve it is just disconnected atm because it is bad. I just needed to bypass it so my feul guage will work for me on the front tank.

A 1997 F250/350 with a diesel engine has the selector valve.

Looks like you need to Jumper the Yellow/White wire (Pin 5) to the Dark Blue/Yellow wire (Pin 4) to make the gauge work for the front tank.
