Is a 5.0L flywheel the same as a 5.8L flywheel
 

I'm in the middle of swapping in a standard 5 speed transmission
(ZF-42) from a 1994 F250 into my 94 F150 5.0L (302) 4x4 that originally had a automatic (E40D)

My question is the flywheel from the 5.8L going to work with my 5.0L? It is a 164 tooth ring gear and externally balanced.

I dont know for sure, but I think the 351 flywheel is different. The 4.9 and 5.0 use the same.

They are not the same, they are balanced differently. Plus the 93 up 351W had an 11.5" clutch, while the 300/302 used an 11" clutch.

You have 28 oz vs 50 oz. Be careful of the years of each engine too. The bellhousing will also possibly be different and thus a different number of teeth. Ford does us all a disservice with the multiple flexplates they use. Try finding a 50 oz flexplate with 157 teeth to mate to a 1968 Mustang C4 trans..... Grrr.

And the bolt pattern of the torque converter varies. Check ALL your parameters.

This is the worst part of building a Ford.

The 4.9L (300 I-6) M/T flywheel is not the same as a 5.0L (302). The 5.0L M/T flywheel is not the same as a 5.8L (351W).

The only thing that is the same 4.9L/5.0L/5.8L is the 164T M/T flywheel ring gear (C5AZ-6384-D).

Flywheels and flexplates
 

The 300-6 flywheel and flexplate have no balance weights at all since it is an internally balanced engine.

Some 300 units are identical otherwise with some V8 pieces that have the same diameter, tooth count and use the same clutch.

Now that I think about it, the flywheels are different. I did a 4.9 to 5.0 swap once, years ago. However I believe I used the 4.9 pressure plate and clutch. And I do believe I got another flywheel for the 5.0.

OK this is good help, My 5.8L flywheel is marked E8TR-BA don't think this is the part number of it is it?

I called Ford today and they said the flywheel is discontinued??

Should i just get one from napa? And What should i get? A 1994 F150 5.0L manual flywheel? or should i get a 1994 F250 5.0L manual flywheel?

As the ZF-42 5 speed was only offered in F250 and F350

On the centerforce web site sounds like the F150 ,F250, F350 all use the same clutch between 5.0L and 5.8L so i shouldn't mess that up right?

351W flywheel is not the same as a 5.0L The 5.0L flywheel is not the same as a 4.9L

Alvin in AZ (retired RR 'signal ape' and a well known raconteur on Ford truck websites) gave you a ref for rockauto.

4.9 will bolt to 5.0 but i think the 4.9 is internally balanced , where the 5.o is externally balanced. It will shake you out, DO NOT PUT 4.9 FLYWHEEL ON 5.0.
