1990 F250 460 fuel issue
 

last week, drove bout 35 miles, parkede, stacked wood fer bout 2 hours, drove home, parked for bout 5 minutes, came back... wouldnt start, not gettin fuel, found the relays, but 3 of em are out from under the cover, noticed they each are a different color, Im guessin based on another post I read, that the fuel pump relay is green, I would like to confirm this, and if there might be any other potential causes. I ve always struggled in the diagnostic side of workin on cars and trucks, so any help is much appreciated

For such a sudden onset of a problem, I'd be checking the fuse[s] before I got into the relays.

Yes the relay should be green if somebody has not up dated it to the newer stile.

subford:thanks hoss, I can chalk one up to dumb luck, I figured green was the one, I'm only the second owner and still under 100k, so the chances of an update are pretty slim.DBGRIF91: I checked on power to the relay, and thats good, so I figure its the relay, but none of the other relays will fit, so Im still not 100% sure. I cant seem to find the fuse, then again I aint exactly the sharpest crayon in the box. I searched youtube for testing relays, but still having trouble comprehending how to go bout it. Any simple ideas?

Most of the time the problem is with the relay socket and not the relay.
Check the wires under the socket to see if they are attached good.
If OK ground pin #6 of the self-test plug and turn on the key. each time pin #6 is grounded the fuel pump relay should click.
There are no fuses in the fuel pump circuit. It uses what is called a fuse link and is coming off the battery side of the starter relay on the passenger finder. The fuse link feeds a Yellow wire that goes to the common contact point on the relay.
When you check the wires under the socket make sure both the yellow wire and the red wire have power on them with a test light with the key on. The brown relay should click each time the key is turned on and then fall out when you turn the key off. It supplies the red wire at the fuel pump relay.
