chugging at 50+mph

2004 F350 6ltr runs strong, excelerates strong but when getting up to 50 + truck starts to chug pretty bad. If I let off of the gas it seems to stop, if I excelerate past 60 it seems to stop. I am leaning towards the transmission or possibly the converter going bad. Anyone else have this happen?

**new FICM and 4 injectors have already been replaced.

Sounds like a bad injector. That is exactly what mine did when my #4 died 2 weeks after being replaced. New injectors can fail.

You had the chugging at cruising speeds? If i stomp on the pedal it ran like a son of a biscuit and at over 70 it seemed fine.

BLADE35 07-28-2011 11:30 PM

have you scaned it for codes

devils toy 07-28-2011 11:39 PM

no codes stored. last code retrieved was a iat sensor gone bad that was a month ago, no mods. Only thing done is 4 new injectors, egr, 2nd icp and ficm

possibly sticky turbo vane actuation.
is the programming stock or are you running aftermarket tuning?

great advise!!

mblanken881 07-29-2011 11:02 AM

is the motor chugging or is the truck kind of vibrating or lurching? mine does the same kind of thing right at 50 MPH but mine is a bad carrier bearing.

devils toy 07-29-2011 04:17 PM

The programming is stock for now. I thought about the turbo to and start to play with it. I disable the vgt. Still had the same problem. @mblanken it is kind of hard to explain. I use the term chugging cause that is how the misses describes it.It is almost like it is bucking. I have had a carrier bearing go. Does feel like that.
I was leaning towards tranny thinking maybe the converter is not locking up or slipping some how.

I would also suggest sticky turbo. Just had mine cleaned and now runs better than new!! I had underboost codes and chugging at slower speeds. Try cleaning the turbo an see wat happens.

chugging at 50+mph

I had the same problem on my 2004 F250 CC, after I ran the codes I found that #7cyd had a continuity imbalance . I replaced the #7 injecter and solved the problem. Good luck.

Just wanted to thank everyone for their help. It turned out to be number 1 injector. 2 hours later I was hauling ass. Thanks again. Now to install my SCT livewire. Cant wait to see how that works with my 39 foot fifth wheel.

Haha bucking our chugging at 50 mph. Seems to be injector related 9 times out of 10 in my limited experience.
