raw fuel smell burning eyes
I have a 94 1/2 turbo and when i first got my truck couple years ago never noticed the very strong smell.. We will all get in the truck fast if the wind is blowing toward the doors to keep the smell from coming in cab. Truck runs good,, noticed starting there is a delay at start and it shutters at times while starting and some white to bluish smoke just for 15 sec and clears up.. Not complaining at all but the burning eye smell. What could this be?? PLease hope someone can say this is what i did and fixed it..

It's your un-love for diesel in the face!
J/k I wish I could help on this one. i get a whiff every now and then myself. |
You have a fuel leak, start looking or smelling. I'm serious about the smelling, if I have a leak my wife knows it right away. The white or blueish smoke might be injector O rings starting to go. The shuttering is probably the fuel system catching up with the fuel circulation from the leak (air in lines).

Sounds like an exhaust leak. The most common place for exhaust to get in the cab is the white insulator under the shifter boot. Pull up the 4 screws holding the shifter boot down and see if it's all torn up under it. If it is then fix that first. I can find you the part number for a new one if you need it. The turbo outlet is he most common leak on them.

I want to let everyone know its coming from the exhaust.. IPR sounds like a area i can check.. does anyone else have any ideas? Can you take the IPR and clean it??

Probably injector O rings if its coming from the exhaust.

Just a guess, I'm not sure of any other way for fuel to get into your exhaust. How to tell for sure, I don't know.

In my case it isn't in the exhaust, it is from the fuel pump. It isn't much of a leak, but for whatever reason it really gets into the air intake for the heater. If I flip it to recerc when I stop I don't get any in the cab.
