horn blows by itself

Sitting in the house, heard a horn blowing and ran outside to find my F350's horn was blowing. When I pushed on the horn button on the steering wheel it quit. Couple of hours later, it started blowing again. Pushed the horn button to make it stop and removed the fuse so it would not start blowing again. Did a forum search, but didn't have any luck. Any ideas? Short in steering wheel? :-huh

Never replaced air bag, but did replace the horn some months ago.

hotroddsl 06-27-2011 07:39 AM

What you described usually only happens with replacement air bags but if the fabric is folded too loosely as the plastic gets hot it expands at a slower rate than the fabric causing the horn to honk until the steering wheel heats up to expansion as well!

I've had the same problem on my 06 F250. Parked and locked and the horn goes off. does any one have any Ideas. Also does anyone have any idea where ford hid the Horn Relay...

Engalwood 01-13-2012 12:13 PM

BUMP. My 2002 F250 does this as well. What can I do to fix it? The airbag has been replaced before. Ladyran a red light and pops smoked her, then proseeded to the BIG LIMESTONE wall at the Childerns Museum. NOT his fault, but any who. What can I do to fix this. Church Brothers was the place that fixd her. For the recored I dont like them anymore. Unno maybe just the one thats downtown.

horn blowing

What did you guys ever do about the horn blowing?
Do I have to get the air bag replaced? Or the cover that has the switch in it.
I read all these forms and all I hear is pull fuses and check relay. I had the Ford dealer tell me there is no relay it is built into the back of the fuse box and have to replace the whole thing.
The expanding air bag makes sense but what do we do?

Someone please help

Back to the top with this thread, Started happening in my Excursion, had to remove fuse to get her to quiet down. Forget to mention, I have Nathan Airchime K3LA train horns with a 6 gallon air tank, can we say HOLY SMOKES while driving down the road on that one!!!!!!

It may be a failing clock spring in the steering wheel.

Do all the trucks in question have a security system that blows the horn if vehicle is tampered with? Do you have a panic button on your key remote that blows the horn?

BigRy 05-25-2014 06:44 AM

I have an aftermarket alarm in my truck. I'm going to remove the airbag tomorrow and inspect the board and wiring around the clock spring. I'd rather do this than try to track down a faulty ground wire, but I guess easiest is the way to go for now.

Please be careful. Remove battery connection and wait at least 20 minutes before proceeding. Deployment can possibly kill you.

The Fix

My previous reply and comments is somewhere in this thread of another one, But this thread popped up this morning so I thought maybe this might help.

Your Clock Spring is bad. Plain and simple. Costs $170 at the dealer, maybe $90 aftermarket. Takes maybe 30 min max to replace with no hard work. a steering wheel puller and a couple of screw drivers.

search YouTube, there is a couple of videos detailing it.

I read a lot of different things... air bags expanding, relays, shorted wires.... but really think just people guessing.

That blows!

BigRy 05-25-2014 10:28 PM

Cool deal, Old Time RV'er. I assumed that to be it but I wasnt sure. I have a local overstock parts house near me to where I can get a new OEM one for 78.00 bucks, so I'll give it go.

Thanks

I'll report back...
