2005 F-350 Need Crew Cab Removal Instructions Head Gasket Problem
 

We have a 2005 Ford F-350 Dual Custom Cab. There is a blown head gasket and someone said we need to remove the crew cab before we can repair. Is that true? 6.0 Turbo Diesel Would appreciate any info

People told me this about my V-10 also.....found a shop that does a lot of heads on V-10 in the truck. No pulling the motor or the cab.

it is really alot eaiser to do when you remove the cab. but you need a twin post lift or a crane to lift off the cab.

You do NOT need to remove the cab. Thats a waste of time.

I just did this with access to a 2 post lift. Had never pulled a cab on an f250 so it took awhile to disconnect everything and figuring out what was left to disconnect.

I still think it was worth pulling off. For sure. Now if i didnt have access to a lift, that wouldn't stop me from doing the heads with the cab on.

As stated, it is not necessary to remove the cab. It does make the job easier once the cab is removed, but I personally would not go thru all the hassle.

with practice one can have a set of heads off and on a bench in about 5 hours time.... cab on.
it dont get much better then that.

Cheezit,dont you have to remove the a/c box off the firewall to get the passenger head off ? I thought you or one of the other techs said you have to ?

the box is held on by 5 nuts. just evac and refill the a/c. if you dont have a way to do that you can go to your local shop and ask them to evac it and have them refill it when your done.

So you don't have to remove any of the hoses?? Or can u just unbolt it and move it out of the way enough to make it work?

once again evac the ac you will need to seperate the line to remove it not reall a big deal just a disconnect tool cost about 10 for the tools.

we just did mine here last week. pulled motor and put studs in also. much easier with the motor on the floor doing the heads with the studs. trying to torque those studs to spec with motor in the truck would be a task. 3 evenings and one saturday job was complete

Many have posted take the cab off, leave it on, the face is, if you want to just remove the heads and replace the head gaskets you don't have to remove the cab. If you plan on upgrading the head bolts to head studs, then you have to remove the cab. You cannot install the head studs and install the heads with the cab on. The job of taking the cab off is not hard. I took my truck to Twisted Diesel in Chesapeake, VA and they had my cab off in 1.5 hours. Heads off and to the machine shop in a few hours. The longest part of the job was waiting for the inspection from the machine shop. Both heads were cracked, and had to be replaced. The total job took one week and I was back on the road and good to go. I now have almost 20 miles on my truck since the repair and I have not used a drop of oil or coolant since.

That is a BIG lie. If they told you that...Sorry they lied.

I did mine with cab on installed ARP head studs, truck went in my garage on a Saturday, rolled out on the next Saturday. Thats with having the heads checked.
