'99 F150 engine swap question
Hey folks. New guy here.
I bought a 99 F150 from my neighbor for $500 because of a blown motor. I've had trouble finding the replacement 5.4 motor it needs. I have located a 94 Crowne Vic destined for the scrap yard and wondered if the motor is the same. and will be a suitable replacement, before I buy it. It would be a nice deal to get the junk body and get the truck running. Pay for itself so to speak. Thanks for the help. |
what size motor in in the car ? if they are the same then it should work !
|
Why are you having a problem finding a 5.4? There all over the place...lol
Any 99 to 03 F-150 5.4 will work. |
Lots of problems with those old 4.6L's and valve stem seals leaking, not to mention about 70hp less than your 5.4L. It also is not plug and play.
You can find a salvage yard 5.4L for $800-$1500 depending on how many miles you want on it and shipping costs. |
Yeah, you should not have any difficulty finding a 5.4L 2 valve engine.

The valve stems on the 4.6l are the exact same as the 5.4l. The entire head is the same actually. And the 5.4l is just as prone to the valve guide leaking. Id know my 02 5.4l that is in my 99 smokes at start up from time to time. Still has good power though. Makes me think that its probably the valve guides leaking. |
Put a 5.4l engine in it. Easier and it just makes sense.
|
and the 94 crown vic has coil packs not cops. a lot of little differences that will make a pia
|
Thanks for the help guys.
It was supposed to be a 5.4 in the vic. but not. 4.6 as ya'll knew. it had a lein too so i didnt need it. |
alright with the 5.4 thing any 5.4 will work
in my case i have a 4.6 in mine with bent valves fixed it once and bent again so changeing motor i just pulled a 4.6 out of a 2000 crown vic with the same motor the only thing i have to change is timing chain cover, valve covers for truck, oil pan for 4wd, intake for truck. but other than that its easy to change but a crown vic will not help u out with a 5.4 in the truck now |
The Crown Vic. is a car motor and is different from the truck motors. Only use a Ford truck motor in a Ford truck.
|
No the car motor is not different than the truck motor. The Crown Vic 4.6l will drop in place of a truck 4.6l without issue.
The point is that putting a 4.6l engine into a 5.4l truck frame requires some electrical work, and custom tuning. Or a complete engine harness and ECM swap. Niether of which is fun. Hence just swap a 5.4l in to make it easiest. |
