Antenna cable replacement

I have a 97 F-150 ext. cab 4x4. The antenna connection at the radio, and the cable are badly corroded, and need to be replaced. Has anyone done this? Any tips to make replacing it easier?

Thanks!

its kinda a pain in the ass if you do it right. theres 2 ways to do it.

1) run the new wire in the existing wires path. which sucks because your pretty much have to remove the dash.

2) do what i did and just run the cable in your own path under the dash and up to the radio. thats the easiest way.

Okay, I think I'll go with plan B. I kind of figured it would be a pain, either way. Thanks for the heads up!

Is this a common thing. I just got a 97 and the cable is corroded to the point it came apart when I was trying to figure out why the radio didn't work.

I haven't taken apart the attena side yet, is the cable crimped on requiring a whole new attena or is there a connection there also?

The way I used to do them is,
take off the antenna, cut the wire and tape the new wire to that end. Pull the old wire through to the inside with the new wire attached. Un-tape it and plug it in. Mount new antenna. :)

Phil, that's what I was thinking of doing. There is also what looks to be a panel on the top of the dash, that may be able to pop out, I'm going to look at that also.

just so you know, the wire runs to the bottom of the dash and is clipped in. so i dont know how you would go about fishing a new one it....

Crap. Well, so much for that plan. I'll just try and route it whatever way I can get it through, then.

Cool! I was looking at that on the way into work this morning, and I thought of that. Should make it easier to get that cable through.
