It has taken me the better part of a month to do the frame repair, replace fuel pump, reseal steering gear box, and replace front brake pads. Partly due to money concerns, and partly due to the massive heat that stuck around for 29 of 30 days in June.
It's been a slow process on the frame repair, since I had to rely on someone else to perform the welding. I can weld stuff together, but it's rarely pretty to look at. Sometimes, it will even stay together.......
Most of the other stuff, I can handle on my own. There's a bit of body repair that needs to be done, and I'm not real good at doing this. I can get stuff really close, but not quite perfect. Luckily, this old truck has rather thick sheet metal, so it will be easier to make the needed repairs. Harder to make the metal flex back into shape, but once it's there, it will stay put pretty good.
They just don't build 'em like they used to.......

I actually spend more time on here, than I do working on the truck.
Did get a little enjoyment last night.

I drove it to my house for a bit. Still doesn't a belt on the PS, so the steering is a bit stiff, and the brakes aren't the greatest, but they will stop it.
A new set of belts, replace the short piece of hose for the PS return, and replace the rear axle seal and brake shoes should get the steering and brakes working like they are supposed to. Then I'll address making it a bit better. Needs plugs/wires and at least a carb rebuild.
There's a lot of little things that need done, but I just keep on tackling them as time and money permit. Time isn't too much of an issue, but money can be. Time is only an issue due to the massive heat we've been having.

Tim, glad to hear ya'll were able to get back home. Those fires have been touch and go according to the national news.

Ya, too hot to fish today too. But the wife and i took the boys to Oologah for some bank fishing this morning. It was too hot and the lake was low, but they caught some sunfish, a little channel cat, small mouth, large mouth, and bluegill. All in all they had a good time.

Drove the Thunderbird down route 66 Saturday. Got to drive some of the original road. Ran good until we got got a tank of bad gas in Miami. (I'm hoping that's what it is). It's running like crap now, won't idle. Only started happening after we filled up. Gave it a much needed bath today.

Wife is in FL helping her Dad with his knee surgery. He turned 83 today!!!

Tim, glad your getting to go back home.

Rogue_Wulff 07-05-2011 01:54 AM

I'm hoping to be able to cruise at least part of rt 66 soon in dad's truck. Of course, I did get to drive a few blocks of it friday, between my house and my buddies, as we both live about 1 block off of the mother road as it passes thru town.

I went and picked up a new power steering seal kit today, to fix my screwup. Not sure when I'll get it all put back together. Soon, I hope. The heat will play a bit of a factor. Heat + MS is not a good combo......
