Type of Brake Fluid

Well my dad has a 2010 XLT 2WD with the 4.6 3V. The other day, after the snow storm, he had to put chains on the back to get out of the driveway (big hill covered in ice). As he drove around about 1.5 miles roundtrip, one of the chains got some slack in it and tore a brake line. He has a new brake line but needs to bleed the lines. Unfortunately I'm about 100 miles away and he doesn't have access to his owners manual at the moment. Does anyone know what type of brake fluid it needs? I have Dot 3 in the shop for him, but i'm afraid it may need Dot 4 or 5. Any advice will be much appreciated. Thanks!
