Blue Ovals Stance On Tuners
 

Can anyone give me an update on Ford's stance on tuners on the 6.2? I do know 6.0 diesel issues caused Ford to blame almost everything on tuners if they even thought it had ever had one. Has that changed, or are we still under the play and get caught you pay? Kent

That's a question I would ask your dealer's service department. For the most part, historically, gassers are not subjected to as much scrutiny, especially those engines that aren't supercharged or turbocharged (like the EcoBoost).

However, if you had a major engine failure and a tune was installed, I'm sure that Ford would have a problem with it.

Rumor is that Ford can tell you've run a tune, even if you revert back to stock. I'm not sure anyone has verified this 100% but if I were to tune, it will be after the warranty is up.

Of course they can tell. You're reflashing the programming. That will show a date/time stamp change each time it's done at a minimum. The question is...do they look for this as a matter of course? I'd bet not, but I'll also bet they look carefully if the truck is in for something major with the engine/powertrain.

Caveat emptor.

I'm not so sure about the time stamp, but there is a counter for the number of reflashes done, or so I've heard.

I just talked to a friend of mine who is a Ford tech a few minutes ago. He said if there is a big issue, and the dealer wants to get a ford engineer involved, they can bring out a different computer and find anything and everything that has been done to the pcm. BUT, if you have a tuner, and set it back to the stock tune before going in, the tech has ZERO way to know if you have had a tuner hooked up before. SO, it is a gamble, but like he said, flash it back to stock and they will have no reason to think you have had it tuned.

Try to find an aftermarket friendly dealership. Obviously, reverting back to a stock tune is ALWAYS a good idea, BUT..... some dealers will grab at straws to void your warranty (I've heard of K&N filters being justifiable cause to terminate the warranty).

Truck Paradise works directly with a local dealership that tends to look the other way when it comes to tame modifications. Cold air intakes, Leveling kits or small lifts, full exhaust AS LONG AS IT KEEPS THE DPF, and tuners that do not alter or modify the wiring (Edge Juice and Attitude would definately not be overlooked, but a reflash would). Obviously, if your 6.0 has blown a headgasket, due to too much boost................... and they see signs of a tune, that would probably not be covered.

I know that Ford makes these trucks very easy to modify, and there has to be a bit of wiggle room that they give dealers to keep some vehicles under warranty.

Shame...you're like 5 hours from me on the other side of the state.
