New Drive-shaft/yoke dynamometer. Need your help!
Hi all.
Not 100% sure if this is the right section for this. But, here goes :) I have just developed a new drive-shaft torque sensor/dynamometer. I am looking to adapt it to Ford vehicles. Currently, it is up and running on a Chevy 2500HD ( yeah yeah... I know ). Ford seems to be more into performane trucks than GM. It currently works with the Innovate Motorsports LogWorks software. And the LC-1 and the rest of their MTS devices. It is a real strain-gage based torsional force sensor, mounted to the slip-yoke. No accelerometers, timers, GPS, etc. http://www.mtihp.com/dyno/image140.jpg It is similar to the Land-and-Sea "On-board Dynamometer" see: http://www.land-and-sea.com/rotary-s...shaft-dyno.htm Here it is, installed in my 2002 2500HD 4x4 ( yeah yeah...I know ) http://www.mtihp.com/dyno/image176.jpg http://www.mtihp.com/dyno/image182.jpg http://www.mtihp.com/dyno/image117.jpg http://www.mtihp.com/dyno/log3.jpg So far, testing has gone better than expected. Even with the big 32-spline 1410 yoke on my HD, I can easily resolve less than +/- 1lb-ft of torque ( out of a full scale of +/- 4500 lb-ft ) and +/- 1hp. Although, the weather has put a temporary hold on further testing. What I am looking for is the info that I need to make installation kits for the various Ford RWD applications. Specifically, the slip-yoke dimensions and the tail-shaft housing dimensions that I need to mount the field coil. I am trying to get this out to the public for less than $1500.00 ( vs. the $5000-$7000 that Land and Sea wants ). Any help, dimensions-wise, is appreciated http://images.ibsrv.net/ibsrv/res/sr...gr_stretch.gif Thanks, all<!-- google_ad_section_end --> |
Very cool idea, I don't have the specs on hand, but here's a bump.

Thanks :)
Even a list of the most popular models for tuning/mods would be helpful. Then I could go down to the dealership with a set of calipers and try to sneak into the service area :P |
I think you just have two transmissions to worry about. The mod motors have the 4r100 for the early trucks and 5r110 for the newer trucks. I'm not sure but I think even the high end mustangs will run one of those two, I don't think the small trans can take the supercharger.
For models, I'd look at Lightnings and f250 diesel as they are both factory supercharged and may have a bigger performance following. Then the diesel trans should be very close to the gas f150 and up in dimensions. |
Thanks for the tip :)

And.. I can finally talk again :)
AEM ( who took over the Dino project from me, after all of the hard work was done :-X0A6 ) has finally released the drive-shaft dyno kit. AEM’s Dyno-Shaft Gives You HP and TQ Numbers on the Go - StangTV.com A few changes ( like the controller PCB integrated into the coil housing, etc. ) But, it turned out nice :) Thread necromancy rocks ! :-jammin |
