When was the cut off for early/late 99?

I have a 99 F-250 built 2/99. Which I have been told is a late 99. It has all the late 99 engine parts. I needed to replace the front sway bar bushings. A guy I work with had given me the ones he had taken off his truck when it was new and he installed a lift kit. His was an 02. So one day I had I went to swap them out and found them to be longer links and with larger bushings. So orderd a bushing kit. Went to install and found the same problem. Kit said it covered 99. Did some research and found that there was another kit for the 99's, ordered and it was the correct kit. Installed and now finally that clunk is gone. Just curious if my sway bar was a leftover. I know Ford had done it before. Had a late build 94 with 93 motor mounts.

Thanks

i think around 4-99 but the big boys will be here soon.

Engine build date?? I believe it was 12/7/98... You should have a late 99. Go out and count the bolts on the turbo compressor housing. 4 bolts = early, 5 bolts = late.

superduty4x4 03-22-2010 12:48 PM

Chassis cutoff for early/late was 3/99 I believe.

Izzy351 03-22-2010 01:10 PM

Well, go out and count the bolts and come back and let us know... :)

Mine must be a freak! 2/99 build, overall a late 99 truck

Like I say, I 3/99 might not be right. I won't argue the part about you (or your truck) being a freak :D

jt371 03-23-2010 08:00 PM

Compressor side has 5 bolts.

Like I said it has (had) the late 99 airbox, had foil on the drivers side boost tube.
Just was curious about the chassis. The first bushing kit I bought and sent back, they called me up and said it was the correct one for my truck. I told it was not the correct one and they didn't stock the one I needed, and asked them to credit me. Which they did.

Franko72 03-23-2010 08:37 PM

after 12/??/98 is the late 99 engine
after 3/15/99 is late chassis
So you should have a late 99 engine, and an early 99 front end.
I THINK?????

Where do you find the chassis date? I have 3/99 on my doorjam, where is there a specific date?

Izzy351 03-23-2010 08:46 PM

You definitely have a late 99 engine... The chassis part I have no idea about.

Im not sure Chris. We were talking about build dates on another thread a few days ago.

[quote=rat49f6;8660016]The confusion lies in the fact that they changed engine configuration in jan and they changed the front suspension configuration in mid march.

Thanks Frank. Just curious about the chassis date because I believe my engine build date is 3/4/99, I'll have to check tomorrow.

Do you mean the door sticker build date is 3/4/99. I believe that would be your chassis build date. Im not sure where the engine build date is located.
Which brings up a good question....Since International built the engines, but Ford installed them. Did the engines come from Navistar with the late 99 equip, bigger turbo, injectors...ect, or did Ford install these items on the line?
I know its kind of obvious by looking at the engines the difference between the early and lates, but if Ford did infact install the turbo, injectors and such, then the assembly date of the engine really wouldn't matter. It would be the date that Ford made the switch on the line as to if you have a late or early engine (3/15/99 ???)
Get where im going?

3/4/99 is on my engine VC.

Franko72 03-23-2010 10:14 PM

ok, so your truck and engine are 3/99.
Ill have to check mine tomorrow, my truck is a 8/98, im curious to see when the engine was built. obviously on or before that date. but still curious.

jt371 03-24-2010 06:22 AM

Thanks everyone. That was what I was curious about. I have a late motor, early chassis. I like to know the details about my trucks anyways, but with early and late parts I want to know the correct ones to order if I have to.

Thanks again to all.

hey jt, welcome to the 2/99 build date club. I like to call my truck a 99.25 because just as yours, it has the late 99 engine with early 99 front axle

btw, where did you get the correct bushings? have a part # you would like to share? Mine clunks, of course.

Franko72 03-24-2010 05:44 PM

Ok, my engine build date is the same as the body...8/98
I guess Navistar was building engines as fast as Ford was building the trucks.

jt371 03-24-2010 07:47 PM

TRL WGN 1 - So since it is an early front end does it have a Dana 50 or 60? I haven't looked at the tag on the diff cover yet. The bushing kit if from Energy Suspension 45-2587. I believe I got them from LMC Truck.

not sure on the 50 vs 60. I haven't read the tag either

Riffraff Diesel 03-25-2010 10:07 AM

All the front ends are Dana 50's until you get up to 02-03 when the F-350's had Dana 60's.

Same boat here: Jan 99 biuld - E99 front end, 99.5 engine. I like the 99.25, I'll have to adopt that!

figured that was more fitting than the common 99.5
unless ours are 99.5's and the others are really 99.75?

This thread should be a sticky! People trying to figure out if they have an early or late 99. And, some actually have a little of both! Glad I found this thread!
